“It’s our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it’s like the last Harry Potter book or something,” Martin said to BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe. He said the band is approaching the album like it’s a grand finale. “I have to think of it as the final thing we’re doing. Otherwise we wouldn’t put everything into it,” he said.
But Martin was careful not to close the door on new music completely.
“Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something,” he added.
It’s worth noting that Coldplay’s sixth album, Ghost Stories, released in May, was the band’s lowest selling debut in over a decade.
It sold 383,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen Soundscan. 2002’s A Rush of Blood to the Head debuted with 144,000 copies sold.
Breaking Dawn would be a better comparison.
Gotta go while you're still relevant right?
I wont be missing them
Who are Coldplay? Never heard about them.
Gotta go while you're still relevant right?
but they're not even relevant
Nevermind just heard a song and now I need a gender check.
Edit: MY AUTOMAERGE!
They were nice to listen to but never made the biggest of impacts, still nice to have them, it's better to go out while they still have popularity, I guess.
They're no Justin Beiber. Coldplay at least was on the side of music that isn't slowly killing it

The poor man's Radiohead, essentially.
Wow, everyone is being so edgy.
I liked them.
They've been pretty lackluster since Viva La Vida.

Absolutely love their older albums.
I have every album except for Ghost Stories but tbh they get very boring very quickly
they've been in it for fucking ages tho so this doesn't surprise me
It was one of the things on my bucket list to see Coldplay live in concert... does that mean it won't happen now?

they sold out and lost their souls just like the rest of them.
even their older b-sides are better than what they're doing now.

But they wrote the official song of the FP Late rating

they did a song with Avicii, it was time
I grew up on their B-sides and early stuff so I suppose this is depressing news for me.
I hope they turn their backs on absolute pop music if they truly are doing a final album.
coldplay was really nice until they became radio material

Go see a good band or something.
I love their first couple of albums, but the last 2 have been abysmal. Probably for the best to quit now, I suppose.

Mylo Xyloto wasn't THAT bad.

The album was ok, but when they performed it live it got so much better. If they do a tour for this last album I'll definitely be going to see them. Hopefully it's better than Ghost Stories though. I respect them for trying something different but it wasn't nearly as good as their past albums.
Shame they went the way they did. I liked Parachutes, I fucking love A Rush of Blood to the Head and X&Y, despite what I've been hearing, I think is pretty decent. Everything after that has just completely failed to resonate with me.
Still their best song:

Rush of Blood and X&Y were their high mark, Viva la Vida was pretty good too, everything after that's kinda meh.
They did have a few songs I didn't mind but in my opinion they were just another generic rock band.
I'm going to have a hard time dealing with all of my friends who like them
