Facebook just updated its iPhone app. Great!
That's no consolation to its employees, who are increasingly getting nudged, cajoled, and even ordered to give up their iPhones for Android devices.
We dug into the reason for the corporate directive, and the answer we got—from a handful of ex-Facebookers and others familiar with Facebook's plans—surprised us.
It's not some new spat with Apple or an attempt to cozy up to Google, which makes the Android operating system.
Instead, Facebook management realizes its Android app is subpar—and believes that the only way employees will take fixing it seriously is if they have to deal with its issues day in, day out.
It's a practice called "dogfooding," from the phrase "eating your own dog food," which is pretty common at tech companies.
9 out of 10 times, it literally fails to do a basic search :v:
That's a nicer way to kick your employees in the ass and tell them they've been doing shit for the past months.
The Android app is buggish as hell.
Finally!
The Android Facebook app sucks ass

I haven't had any issues with it, what are you experiencing?

Slow no matter what connection you are on, limited and sometimes just doesn't even load.
Good, it's a massive piece of shit that gets worse with every update.
Honestly on iOS it's pretty bad too even after the most recent update, but not as bad as on my Android devices. Glad to see them working to improve it but I think the lack of quality on both platforms stems from the fact that they make no ad revenue with their mobile apps.

the iOS app has some of the worst performance in an app I have ever seen
solo developers make better running apps than Facebook does, it's ridiculous

i can't imagine how trendy and cool you must be

Probably the first and last time I will ever see this word used in a news article.

I know you own/owned an HTC Trophy and it's funny because I like the Facebook app on my Samsung Focus Windows Phone better than on any of my other devices. Maybe it's the metro design integration but it just feels better to use in my opinion.

Yeah, it tends to be when you have no one to add.

you didn't even need the facebook app and that's what's awesome about WP7
contacts tile -> find the person you want -> their recent statuses are right there
The facebook app for windows phone is the best I've ever used.
(The one you download from the market)
I've been using Friendcaster instead for a while now, it's far better
The iOS version is sadly also shit, glad i haven't experienced the Android version, if it is so much worse.

What I read.
The blackberry app could use a little work too

Are...are blackberry's...are they good?
I'm on Twitter and Google+ I have nothing against social networking, just Facebook's shit implementation.
Google+ copies Facebook hardcore, just a few added features, but personally I dislike it, even though I did want to like it.
I think what the guy said about you having no one to add is right, cuz who could you have to add on Google+ anyway, no one uses that shit
I wonder how much Google paid them to do this.
But if it means the Android Facebook app is actually going to be decent now then I'm all for it :v:
The user interface is far far better, and it doesn't look like it was built in 2002.
idk about that
-snip-
The Android app is incredibly bloated and so fucking slow, I just the mobile version of the webpage

Really the only blackberry model worth getting now is the bold 9900, touch screen, good browser, perfect keyboard, I love mine
iOS has many alternatives for the real Facebook app, look up Fastbook if you got a iPhone

Timeline fixed that.
Not really, it plopped a list onto your profile page, the rest of the site still looks tired and clusterfucky.
That was true when it was released for "dev users" by Sept. 2011, now I enjoy accessing my albums in a few clicks easily, enlarging important status or links and the overall simplistic look of it.
I don't ask much from a social network, and Facebook does everything you really need perfectly.

Facebook is pure fail.
