The Smiler rollercoaster at Alton Towers has broken down, trapping passengers in the air just months after it reopened following a crash. Footage showed more than a dozen riders stuck on the ride, with their carriages stationary on the track.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/smiler-rollercoaster-passengers-stuck-after-alton-towers-ride-breaks-down-months-after-reopening-a7219911.html
Also BBC - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-37243884 Man.. me and some friends went to Alton a few weeks ago because it was discounted and really empty after all the shit that happened. We figured right after a break-down is the safest time to go to a park but it was still really creepy being there and seeing people with Smiler hoodies. (which cost an exorbitant £55 if I remember correctly) I personally didn't go on the ride, so I waited while my friends went on and just eerily stood watching it for a good half an hour, standing next to a girl in a wheelchair who was also just watching :L The hee-hee ha-ha mind-control SMILE music from the ride really doesn't help the atmosphere either. Alton need to get their shit together.
We go there yearly, it's a shame Alton Towers is having so many problems with that shitty rollercoaster, I remember seeing it the year it was near the end of it's construction and I kept saying that thing looks like it's going to have problems. Alton Towers is a genuinely nice place to visit with a lot to do, but I'm still a bit bitter that they closed down the Log Flume, that was my favorite ride.
Its not even that good, seems more trouble than its worth and the line itself is fucking awful with the creepy music and laughter n shit, a little ott for a mediocre ride
For fuck's sake I have been multiple times since Smiler and still have been unable to sue.
Shit journalism. All that happened was that a safety mechanism engaged. Totally un-newsworthy as this happens multiple times every day at every theme park in the world; just because the smiler had an accident last year they can still make money off it. Nothing is wrong with the ride.
