• Tips on starting to learn how to play guitar?

I've been thinking I want to learn guitar since I always wanted to learn but never had the motivation. But know there's this kind of force that is making me want to learn so bad now. I know nothing about guitars on any of the terminologies but I'm willing to learn. So any tips on how to start learning? What kind of guitar should I buy? Any good programs or sites that can help me start playing guitar? I would appreciate the help.
Bring someone who knows about guitars with you when you buy yours so you don't buy a shitty one.

Depends on what you want to play. I'd say go for acoustic since it's cheaper for starters, but it really doesn't matter if you start with electric or acoustic. Learn how to read guitar tabs - it's real easy. Basically, the mother of all guitar skills is practice, practice and practice. Oh, and get Guitar Pro, if you can. Justinguitar.com is great for beginners too and it's free - kinda like a lot of video lessons. But I would recommend you go to a guitar teacher, you'll advance your skills much faster then with self-schooling.

I'll probably just teach myself but thanks for the input. I might get an acoustic but might get an electric if its cheaper and the amp isn't too pricey. Guitar seems pretty decent, good for starters. Also, the key to guitar playing, is practice, determination and more practice. Just keep on trying that riff or your favorite song again and again. Start from a slower tempo, then gradually increase the speed. That's how I learned Snow Hey Oh :D, took me 2 freakin' hours.

Since you're getting an acoustic, make sure you're actually interested in music that features an acoustic guitar. When I first started playing, I used my mom's acoustic and it made me not want to play because I wasn't playing music I liked. After I got my electric I started to get a lot better since I was playing music that interested me and made me keep trying until I could play it perfect.
Try your best to use all of your fingers when you play. Don't try and use two only at first like I did haha.
I swear there's like 10 of these threads each months.
At first when I started guitar, I was taught by this guy, but after like 3 weeks I decided I didn't like learning that way, and taught myself by looking up songs and learning them by myself, finding the songs I really like, and I'm still not very good now but I keep playing because I want to learn these songs, and I guess if I keep playing I'll improve, right? Gradually moving on from the simple stuff to the better stuff. xD I'm interested in electric and acoustic songs, my electric guitars okay around £90 but have to keep tuning it... and my stepdad recently brought an acoustic which I play sometimes... not too bad for £50

Most starter packs(Especially those sold at Best Buy) are worse than shit quality and will break down within a couple of months. Find a guitar store and buy an acoustic with a tad bit more quality. The extra price is worth having something that'll last you.
First of all acoustic is probably your best bet to start learning. It's harder to play and it can be played solo(electric generally needs some accompaniment). After playing some acoustic you notice you're finger strength and accuracy goes up a lot faster than if you played electric. All in all I would suggest eventually getting both. Also, try doing http://www.berkleepress.com/catalog/product?product_id=11250 The "Berklee" Guitar Method. Learning how to sight read can be really important and can benefit you in more ways than just learning to play songs(it also makes writing down your music a lot easier for instance). Getting a teacher would also be helpful, but that can be expensive and if you can't afford it don't fret too much.
