So yeah, I went out for a fantastic meal tonight and wanted to chat about it when I noticed that Cooking Chums doesn't have a restaurant thread. So tonight, I went to this Italian restaurant called Amarone in the centre of Edinburgh. For starter I had seared King Scallops wrapped in Pancetta, served with a sundried tomato dressing and rocket, I'd personally give it an 8/10 would have been better had the Scallops been cooked for 30 seconds longer (I know a lot of people like Scallops to be cooked for under a minute, this is just personal preference). For my main I had roasted fillet of Sea Bass, roasted with garlic and orange zest served with saffron arborio rice and roasted tomato's. Again, I would give this an 8/10. Another one of these times when a little more attention to detail with the filleting of the fish can turn a dish from a good to an outstanding dish. With this meal I was drinking Birra Moretti (Nice hoppy flavour, not too strong. Doesn't overpower the meal), Peroni (Strong taste and reasonable %, personal preference. Not the best for a seafood dish) and a dram of Lagavulin 16 year old (Seriously good Islay, smoky and sweet). Also, for during the first weekend of December in Edinburgh (Christmas season is literally Edinburgh's busiest time), the service was excellent. For me and my girlfriend, for two starters, two mains and a good few drinks it came to £70 odds, gave them £80. I'd recommend them if you're in Edinburgh and looking for a good place to eat. Be good to have some discussion of places you enjoy eating and your reviews. Cheers.
So alone...
Eating out is fun to do. Going to restaurants is also a good idea. I remember one time I went to the Cheesecake Factory with my friends and I ordered the Burrito Grande. Grande was an understatement. That fucker was HUGE. One of my friends commented that it looked like a living creature. "I think I can see it breathing!" It was delicious, though. My brother and I absolutely love to go out to restaurants and eat with our friends. Every time we have a big day planned with our friends, we always end it with a trip to a nice restaurant, usually the Cheesecake Factory, though sometimes we settle for a simple diner.
Okay, two places that piss me off: Olive Garden: Literally everyone here jizzes about it, but every time I go I get shitty, cold-ass food, for way too much, and horrible waiters. Old Spaghetti Factory: The sauces all taste like bitter wine and have no other flavor, the pasta is usually undercooked (not al-dente, crunchy), and again, way too much dolla for my holla.

I have been to a restaurant in melbourne called noodle kingdom 5-6 times and the food is godly, first I started with a spring onion pancake that goes great with soy sauce I then had a plate of beef and vegetable on noodles (massive fucking plate of it for $9.50), It goes great with the free chilli oil afterwards I had a few fried pork dumplings which are ok by themselves (a sweet flavour with a bbq-like undertone) but wait until you dipped it in a mixture of chilli and soy sauce which just makes it stand out as a dish. It is a great restaurant if you are very hungry and have a craving for chinese food which is good in quality and size and is relatively cheap.

Went out for an Indian yesterday. Not sure if I should write a full review again, this sub-forum's not really busy enough to justify it.
eating out is nice if you actually get what you're paying for. It's hella expensive, & sometimes is shit.

Sometimes, the fanciest restaurants are the worst, and the cheapest are the best.
Sometimes, the fanciest restaurants are the worst, and the cheapest are the best.
That's one of the reasons I love diners so much. They're cheap and they make good burgers.
Sometimes, the fanciest restaurants are the worst, and the cheapest are the best.
Sometime's, rarely though. Food's one of those things where you really do get what you pay for. Although I've been to a few pretty expensive restaurants and had a dish that I know I could've prepared better.
A lot of chain restaraunts are kinda disappointing, to me at least.

I know plenty of other places with WAY better bread rolls.

I ate there once and the attitude of the staff was nearly as disgraceful as the food. The food is a la carte so the portions are miniscule but the is cooking terrible. I seem to remember paying about 50 pounds for a plum tomato and a wet cod. The Italian cafe/resturant further down the hill was a far superior experience.
