Hey guys,
First off, apologies if this is in the wrong forum, kinda' new to posting around here. I've been working on a new game called PuzzlePork and would like to share what I have so far. I'm also KickStarting the game to help finish the development. I'm offering cool rewards such as art books, posters, t-shirts and the DRM free copy of the game along with the OST.
Here is the trailer I made for Kickstarter:

Our Kickstarter campaign is: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1343822269/puzzlepork-a-monochromatic-precision-platformer
Again, I apologize if this is in the wrong section or if you are sick of people throwing Kickstarter projects at you but we'd appreciate it if you could share this with your friends, it'll really help us out a lot. Afterall, we're only 2 people.
Any feedback or comments would be greatly appreciated,
Thank you
LIMBO inspiration?
LIMBO inspiration?
Yup! We have taken a lot of inspiration from Limbo regarding the art. We love that game!
The art style really doesn't work for a game like this. And the game does not look interesting at all, it's just another indie sidescroller
You took the limbo too far. Black and white fuzzy forest background? That's just stepping into plagiarism.
For what the game really seems to be about, the art style just goes in the opposite direction of it. You mixed Super Meat Boy and Limbo? Great, but I don't really see what there is to gain from it.
Just because the two games are individually good, doesn't mean they go hand in hand together. Sorry for rambling about something that you've obviously put a lot of work into, but this is what I truly feel about it. Not enough uniqueness to it to win me over, sorry.
too much like limbo, AND with harder to see graphics
The pigs look like they're from angry birds or something.
Something like Limbo meets angry birds meets meatboy... but worse
Excluding the fact this is too close to LIMBO in terms of almost everything, the game play doesn't really lend itself to the atmosphere. In fact, everything about this screams unoriginality. LIMBO graphics with Super Meat Boy game play.
The reason the art style worked in LIMBO is because you were a lost child, and the game portrayed this lack of comprehension with clouded obscure graphics, no hints, no pretense, and heavy oppressive themes (not to mention [sp]when you are attacked by maggots that control your movement, the deaths that play no music, just left you in silence.[/sp].
You should create your own graphic/art style to suit the game play more.

Edit: I have properly read through your Kickstarter:
Not going to criticize this, as your story may have some untold pretense as to why you are collecting pigs, I hope.
PuzzlePork is an eerie atmospheric monochromatic style platformer where the goal is to collect pigs
Please show how it is different.
PuzzlePork needed a drastic change if we wanted our project to stand out. Our old cartoon style was just not cutting it for us. We announced an art style change from cartoon style to realistic graphics but sadly this did not suit PuzzlePork. We finally settled on the monochromatic style we have now, however we've added our own style to it.
In-fact, http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1343822269/puzzlepork-coming-to-pc-mac-ios-and-android-0 (your old kickstarter) had a cool graphic style, but why did you need another one?
oh gosh
so you took your unique-enough appearance and destroyed it in favor of theft
To stand out?
How does that work?
Thanks for the feedback and comments guys. We're still very early alpha so things will be changing and edited.
We felt the old style from the last art style felt a little off. To us it looked very cheap and had poor graphics. Everything was below 500 polys and the texture work could have been handled better. We didn't like it as much.
In terms of the new "Limbo" style we decided on, we feel that it looks much more beautiful and its an art style we feel more comfortable with. Even though it draws heavy inspiration from Limbo itself, we feel that we have added our own unique twist on things. Even if it's just splashing colour to the monochrome style. Our artist has done an amazing job at creating the hand drawn look on the menu (seen on the screenshots), and it's something that we feel proud of.
The trailer doesn't really portray the end result of the game, we're hoping to add in a little story and cutscenes that are dark and twisted. Almost demented like. But that's why we're asking for help to finish the development.
The trailer shows very early alpha footage, so stuff may seem quiet at times, or a little buggy at times and is still very much incomplete.

Don't worry about the actual amount of progress you have made too much, that is not what we are criticizing, it just doesn't come across that you have many ideas. The whole concept feels unfinished. the majority of FP understands the amount work you have to put behind developing a game, and not even released titles have a great history of being complete.
You'll get a far greater response (especially on KS) if you draw people in with your ideas.
And utilize this:

I think the color aspect could be a great thing to introduce, if say the main antagonist had brought in darkness and sucked the life from these places, your goal could be "liberating" them. And returning to earlier levels they would be bright and wonderful.
But I am being an ideas guys anyway. I hope things go well for you guys!
I doubt it means anything but I personally won't be supporting this. You stole an art style that was both unique and fitting in limbo and is neither in your game. As an indie you should feel ashamed for such obvious theft of artstyle.
Another thing that really bothers me is that the camera is way too close up, considering the jump/movement speed, you need to either zoom out allot or make it slower, but i personally wouldn't make it slower.(imo)

Thank you so much for your words. I'd like to say firstly that it does indeed come across that we have little ideas for the game, but rest assured that we do have quite a bit of ideas. The trouble with developing a game is that it is very time consuming and can cost a lot. We're only 2 people and we both work full time jobs, so we can't always focus on development, thus cannot work or implement the ideas into the game.
As for your idea, it's really good! This is something that I might work on as it ties closely with the current story line. Maybe it's stealing, but at least you've helped us out greatly, if we do decide to have something like this.

Its cool, I'll send you my bank details later.
People said it above but honestly the art style looks terrible. For the style of gameplay it looks more confusing and disrupting rather than beautiful.
What I've learned so far in design school is that if your initial idea isn't all that great then no matter how much you polish it, it's still not gonna look right.
Edit: Looking at the original concept of the game it looked like it had a lot more potential. Good luck dude!
