Starvation tactics against civilians are being used as a weapon of war by the Syrian government, Amnesty International says.
The rights group says at least 128 refugees have died at the besieged Yarmouk camp in Damascus as a result.
It says thousands of people still trapped there face a "catastrophic humanitarian crisis".
Amnesty says families have been forced to forage for food in the streets - risking being killed by snipers.
[...]
Mr Luther described the siege as "collective punishment" of the civilian population and called on the Syrian government to allow humanitarian agencies immediate access to the camp.
Residents told Amnesty that they have not eaten fruit or vegetables for months and at least 60% of people in Yarmouk are said to be suffering from malnutrition.
The camp was created as a refuge for Palestinians fleeing the 1948 Arab-Israeli war but it became a focus of heavy fighting in Damascus in late 2012 when opposition fighters moved in.
The majority of the 180,000 Palestinians at Yarmouk fled what had been their biggest community in Syria but around 20,000 have been trapped inside since government forces cut it off in July last year.
I think I've stopped being shocked what the Assad regime is willing to do a long time ago.
Gah, every time I see images of the damage done to population centers, it still shocks me. The damage done is simply astonishing.
No words.
I just can't find the words for this.
How can someone do this? What is it in a person that lets them just starve people to death? Jesus christ.

Both sides seem to have no regard for their country. Which results in the towns being turned into piles of dust.
Keep fighting, and in the end, there'll be nothing to fight for.
In the past, I have just wanted someone to shoot this fucker so the people can be free of this tyrant and hopefully move on. but now, I feel like that would be to easy for him, now I want them to find a way to make him go through all the suffering he has caused his people.

If you kill assad, you will have a disorganized military force along with extremists, and the rebels fighting it all out with each other.
And sadly, no one is gonna do a damn thing about it.
Angry letters, oh so scary. Amnesty International Letters...? Papa Russia, pls tell them to go away. Uncle China, America and NATO being mean!
Seriously, it fucking blows this situation, but nothing is gonna happen.

It ain't gonna be better if the rebels get to lead, that's for sure
Fucking christ, look at that picture. It's like a sea of people.
what exactly does assad intent to do by pissing off its population, i don't get it, does he want the civil war to last forever?
he is likely punishing people who are not even related to the rebellion in any way.

To top Assad they'd soon have to go full Hitler. What is this even based on?

would you not fight against a regime like that?

idk i think some mentally unstable rebel ate some dead bodies heart a year or so ago and some RT news articles I read.

Yes I would, my post was aimed at Assad's regime and how he is fighting for control over his country.
If he keeps this up, there'll be nothing to control
Though, it can also be applied to some of the various rebel groups gunning for leadership.

Or maybe that a large portion of the Rebels are islamic extremists and are already fighting amongst themself.
It is an illusion to think that the rebels are better then Assad. Maybe lesser of 2 evils.

It has seemed that since day 1, Assad has tried to submit opposition through heavy-handed approach. If he was fighting against a minor terrorist faction, as he insists, this might work. But trying to force a large population to submit isn't going to be clean.
To me this seems just the kind of indiscriminate killing that terrorists are so hated for.

I don't think you can get any more extreme~ than assad.

Once the rebels win they will execute everyone that was a supporter of Assad, so that's a lot of citizens and soldiers crossed on the list. And when they will win there will be another fight that will start among themselves: the islamic extremists and what remained of the original rebels. And since the islamic extremists are more they will probably win, and when they win they will impose on everyone all those stupid sharia laws, and also do they seem to you like the bunch of people capable to repair the country and bring it back on track to the growth it used to experience? Cause to me, they don't.
Assad is still a criminal, but these rebels are shit as well. This isn't the same situation as Lybia.
get of Russia Today jesus christ
No one cared when he used chemical weapons on civilians why would they start caring now.
Assad gets away with this and North Korea gets away with death camps but we can all pat ourselves on the back for defending democracy because we sent some kevlar jackets to Libya when they had their civil war.
