• Christopher Nolan to take over dropped scifi Spielberg film "INTERSTELLAR". Involves worm holes & ti

Yeah obviously we don't need a news thread every time a new film is announced, but there's just too much neat shit behind the making of this film to pass up the chance. Plus it's fucking Nolan (the guy that did Memento, Prestige, and The Dark Knight trilogy). There's been talks going on for this for while, but as of a few hours ago we now have an actual announcement. Based on a treatment initially Co-written by Kip Thorne, the theoretical/gravatational/astrophysicist known for his discussions on time travel through wormholes (this being his first time dealing with the film industry), and producer Lynda Obst, interstellar was first picked up by Steven Spielberg in 2006 for the purpose of being a 'scientifically accurate' film dealing with space travel and wormholes. A few months later, Chris' brother and frequent collaborator Jonathan Nolan stepped in, and added in a time travel element to the script. Next up in 2007 an entire team of scientists from Caltech were hired to work alongside Johnathan for the purpose of further refining the script. Flash forward 6 years and Spielberg finally drops the project after nothing else happened with it, and Jonathan convinces his brother, Chris, having just finished The Dark Knight Rises, to take over the project. The two start working on the script, with it being uncertain as to who would direct it. WELP it's finally been announced so mystery solved: It's gonna be Christopher Nolan http://www.deadline.com/2013/03/christopher-nolans-interstellar-to-be-paramount-warner-bros-co-production-and-joint-distribution/
Interstellar will be co-produced and distributed by the two studios, with Paramount Pictures handling domestic distribution and Warner Bros Pictures distributing the film internationally. Just as interesting, this is a Nolan film that Warner Bros’ financial partner Legendary Pictures will not be associated with after helping bankroll his Batman trilogy as well as his Inception. Directed and written by Academy Award-nominee Nolan, pic is based on a script by Jonathan Nolan. The film will be produced by Nolan and Emma Thomas of Syncopy Films and Lynda Obst of Lynda Obst Productions. Kip Thorne will executive produce.

Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures said, “As a filmmaker and storyteller, Chris has continuously entertained the world with his extraordinary and unparalleled talents. I am pleased beyond measure to welcome him to the Paramount Pictures family. Partnering with Chris, Emma, Lynda and Warner Bros. to release this original idea next November is the perfect way to start the Thanksgiving and holiday movie season for audiences around the world.” Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group, said, “Christopher Nolan is truly one of the great auteurs working in film today, and we’re extremely proud of our successful and ongoing collaboration with him and Emma Thomas. We are excited to be teaming with Paramount, and look forward to working with the Nolans, and producer Lynda Obst, on this extraordinary new project.”
Yeah I'd say I'm pretty damn interested in this. Hell of a wait, though, as the film will release on November 7, 2014. And just like back in the early days of Inception's production, all we know about it is a simplistic plot description, this time that "The film will depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the furthest reaches of our scientific understanding"
It better have robots. It wouldn't be a scifi without robots. I like robots.
Nolan did Memento Fuck, that's one of my favorite movies. Didn't know he did that, guess he's made my two favorite movies
The genius of that man seems endless, how could he know what I want most is a 2013 sci-fi blockbuster.
Nolan did Memento Fuck, that's one of my favorite movies. Didn't know he did that, guess he's made my two favorite movies
The Prestige is also fucking sweet. That and Memento I never get tired of.
after prometheus disappointed me so badly itd be really nice to have a big sci fi film come out and wow me
I recently saw Nolan's Following. Comparing to Memento or The Prestige it was rather simple movie. But goddamn it was great.

Christopher Nolan is a cool guy.
nolan is behind just about every single one of my favorite movies. paint me excited
Nolan? Science fiction? I'm so hard right now.
hi postal also didn't your f&t thread already say it was nolans?
i've read so much about actors' experiences working with Christopher Nolan, and what he's said about working with various actors and writers and stuff, and he just seems like such a good guy, i'm glad there's someone who can be so talented and motivated to work on projects he likes regardless of money at the same time. he kind of shows that you don't have to appeal to what everyone thinks is popular, because as long as you do it well, it will still be massively successful anyway. inception done by anyone besides Nolan probably would have been a total flop.
Caltech? VIRGIL!
Quick read the title and thought it'd be related to Daft Punk's animated feature.. I wasn't dissapointed however! This sounds awesome. And at second thought a live-action version of Interstella 5555 would probably be weird.
Could it be another Space Odyssey? If so, I hope they have a line on par to 'My God, it's full of stars ;-;'. That would be the coolest shit.
Oh hell yes Kip Thorne is one of my favorites.
It better have robots. It wouldn't be a scifi without robots. I like robots.
Robots? Wormholes? Time Travel?! [thumb]http://jaypgreene.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/daleks-2.jpg[/thumb] EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!! EXTERMINAAAAAAATE!!! [editline]8th March 2013[/editline] anyways, Nolan + Scifi = fucking going to be good
Is daft punk doing the soundtrack? :v:
Since he got inspired by Paprika when he did Inception maybe he got inspired by Steins;Gate for this? :v:
Hopefully it will try not to stray from the idea that this will have to be scientifically correct because it's easier. "This is our hyperdrive. It makes us go zoom but we have no idea why. Also it glows and make cool noises." - spess movies
Every time I've seen a movie that was 'realistically accurate', complete with legitimate scientists in the credits, it turned out to be the usual Hollywood drivel because no matter how hard the scientists try they always get overruled by the writers and director. A movie where the core premise is wormholes and time travel does not seem to promise to buck this trend. Doesn't really affect whether it's a good movie or not but I'd take the claims to scientific accuracy with an enormous grain of salt.

He's an executive producer, he has some control over the project. But still, I'm not really expecting the film to go TOO in depth with it's concepts either since they don't want to risk boring the impatient people. Guess we'll find out what they go with when it's out [editline]9th March 2013[/editline]
hi postal also didn't your f&t thread already say it was nolans?
My thread from months back was an announcement for them officially WRITING it. This thread is about how Chris is officially DIRECTING it.
can't wait I don't think Nolan ever made a bad movie
Cool, I'll keep my eye on this. Has the potential to be better than Inception.

This will be awesome, Christopher Nolan's movies are usually no less than mind-blowing.
I wonder how many characters will serve no other purpose than to explain the plot in this movie?
