UPDATE: Amazon's placeholder release date is currently December 31, 2013. As is customary, retailers hold a release date that usually pegs the game for an end-of-the-year release. If you look at their listing for The Last of Us, you will see that the release is the end of this year. Amazon's 2013 release date leads us to believe that the game will be released sometime next year.
Last week, Sony posted an image in Facebook that seemed to hint at a new God of War announcement for tomorrow. Well tomorrow isn't quite here yet, but that hasn't stopped Amazon from posting the game! Sony's big announcement for tomorrow will be the next entry in the God of War series: God of War: Ascension.
" Join Kratos as he seeks freedom, redemption, and the clarity to avenge his family in the most ambitious God of War adventure in the series so far. "
This entry seems to be a prequel to Kratos' first adventure, but we'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out! Until then, here's the trailer!

Can't they think of something new? I think the trilogy was enough.

NOW THEY HAVE TO DO THE PREQUEL TRILOGY. I THINK THE FANS WANT TO KNOW HOW KRATOS GOT TO BE SUCH A BADASS. THE FIRST GAME STARTS WHEN KRATOS IS JUST A LITTLE BOY.

God why do they always have the narrating characters say the game name
It's so fucking dumb and unfitting, I'd rather just see text than hear some 80 year old lady go "GOHD UF WURR, ANSHENSHUN"
Definitely seems like a money pit to extend the series, but to be honest, if the gameplay turns out good like the others, I'll play it.
Maybe, need some more info first.
When is this supposed to take place?
This is exciting!
Will Kratos get a sword through his stomach the THIRD time?
But in all seriousness, can't wait. All God of War -games have been hugely entertaining and fun for me.

Before Chains of Olympus, is all I can say. Before he had any dealings with any gods, I guess.
Just switch mythology already! Jaffe and Barlog had it all laid out for you guys, just follow it! I wanna play as a Vølsung going on a god and monster-killing spree.
Seriously, i think the Norse mythology is better fitting for god-killing and shit. There was so much more of it than in the Greek.

I'd love to slay my enemies with the thought of them falling off until Ragnarok.
Fuck it, make a game about and called Ragnarok.
So PREquel not SEquel, fuck sake i wanna know what happens after GW3 not some PREquel cash in.
There are now more God of War prequels than there are God of War sequels.
For fucks sake. Chains of olympus was as far back as they could possibly go. Everything before then was when he was incredibly boring and purely mortal there isn't a fucking thing to do.
They've covered his family dying enough already and they sorted all of that out entirely. Ghost of sparta dealt with him getting over his mother and brother then GOW3 dealt with him getting over his daughter.
A prequel? Maybe they should've gone with a whole new story and left Kratos' fate up to the players. The scale is going to be a lot smaller as well, considering he was killing gods for the past few games. I just finished Asura's Wrath, and considering the boss fights in that, this probably won't be very epic at all.
On second thought, not just the boss fights, pretty much the entire game. Asura's Wrath beats pretty much everything I've ever played in terms of just sheer scale and excitement. Hell, Asura himself is WAY more angry then Kratos ever was, the force of his anger itself obliterated an entire fleet of spaceships.
wow fuck this noise the only way they can progress with the series is....
god of war.....
in the BIBLE.

Actually, Ghost of sparta is a midquel...

Watch the shitstorm unfold... It'll be the first game banned in 'Merica.
I was really hoping the rumours would reveal a game set after the main trilogy. [sp]It ended on a cliffhanger and too much was unanswered.[/sp]

[sp] Actually, it was kinda implied that he more than just hung over the cliff... A cliffsplatter.[/sp]
And what do you mean "too much was unanswered"? [sp] Everything was gone man! Destroyed![/sp]

RagnaROCK
Death metal to slay your enemies to.

As for God of War, I wouldn't even mind a total reboot and go back and kill Poseidon and Hades and some of the other Gods a second time.
I think they've kind of started to run out of baddies to kill. I guess there is still Artemis, Athena, and Apollo after GoW 3.
You ripped the head off Apollo. It's implied that Athena is doomed to exist alone in the universe in the end.

Well Dante's Inferno came close to that one but once again it quickly turned into the usual "God = Good/Satan = Evil" cliche. I noticed that almost all Biblical themed games usually has you killing Demons/Satan instead of Angels/God.

I guess they shall make the game anways to double check to see if the US is still deeply embedded in Christianity or not...

[sp]I remember reading the series was supposed to show how Greek mythology ended; but it didn't exactly do that. Athena's spirit still lives and the world is in a state of ruin, there are still titans out there too. What happens next?[/sp]
Can't they think of something new? I think the trilogy was enough.
yeah man, i hate being forced to play this also

Kratos restarted the universe.
It all started with Chaos, and it ended with such.

Jaffe and Barlog's original vision was that the Nordic and Egyptians equivalent of Kratos would be involved in GoW 3 and eventually have their own games. My guess is that the gods were to die, but not destroy the world in the process.
However, i can't see the egyptian mythology working. Unlike the other two, direct interaction with mortals isn't documented and their status as idols seems more prevalent, whereas the Nordic gods didn't really have idols, merely... symbolic icons, which you didn't worship.
Funny how Greek seems to be right in the middle. But then, that's Greek for you.
Oh man, Kratos is going to fight the moon isn't he?
Did we not have two prequels? On the PSP?
Oh man, Kratos is going to fight the moon isn't he?
Is he gonna transform into Deku, Goron and Zora Kratos too?
