Stereograms are a type of optical illusion designed to "pop-out" at the viewer. They first began when Charles Wheatstone, in 1838, constructed a Stereoscope which viewed two extremely similar images using mirrors and prisms to achieve a 3D effect. You might have seen this one or ones similar to this one. They are supposed to be used with a stereoscope, but you can use your eyes to achieve the same effect. Warning: The bigger the image, the more difficult it is to view in 3D. This one is the same image, but fully-sized. These stereograms are slightly interesting, but there are other kinds that are more fun. Here's one of a chess board: Anaglyph images are stereograms that use different shades of opposite color, usually red and blue, to achieve a stereoscopic effect without straining you eyes, but I find these kind the most taxing to view. These are the kind of images that you wear 3D glasses for. Some movies and shows will use this effect. You use these glasses to view these kind of stereograms: However, my favorite kind of stereograms are random dot stereograms. The utilize one image with a seemingly random arrangement of dots or images to achieve a hidden, stereoscopic image. These kind of images are the greatest. "Now, Ice, how do I view these awesome images? Do I need special glasses?" Nope. All you need are your eyes, and maybe some time, depending on your ability to see them. It usually takes me half a second to see them, so here's instructions on how to view them:
Hold the center of the printed image right up to your nose. It should be blurry. Focus as though you are looking through the image into the distance. Very slowly move the image away from your face until the two squares above the image turn into three squares. If you see four squares, move the image farther away from your face until you see three squares. If you see one or two squares, start over! When you clearly see three squares, hold the page still, and the hidden image will magically appear. Once you perceive the hidden image and depth, you can look around the entire 3D image. The longer you look, the clearer the illusion becomes. The farther away you hold the page, the deeper it becomes. Good Luck!
http://www.magiceye.com/faq_example.htm That's one way, but there are many ways throughout the Internet to see these images. They can even be animated! If you ever wanted to make your own Stereograms, then you can use this tool for making text images: http://www.eyetricks.com/stereograms/onlinetools/stereocreator.htm I made my signature for another forum using this tool. Once you get good at seeing stereograms, you can do fun things with them, such as play games. Here's Tetris: http://www.hidden-3d.com/games_stereogram_tetris.php You can make your own Stereogram images in a paint-style function with this: http://www.hidden-3d.com/games_stereogram_paint.php And you can fully make Stereograms here: http://www.easystereogrambuilder.com/newMain.aspx Use it like you would a UVW map, when coloring your mask. Here's one I made using my avatar, but the mask came out wrong. :v: Enjoy. Having trouble with the dot images and just want to see what they are? Here's what they are: The second one is the shark swimming.
These things hurt my eyes.
-snip-
I was never able to do this, and still not.
These kinds come out inverted for me.
Porn is awesome with this.
Can never get the dots to work. nevermind got it to work, fucking intense with the shark.
Porn is awesome with this.
I saw a goatse one in an LMAO Pictures thread. Ugh.
Chess board is cool but the dot shit hurts my eyes.
dont forget these babys!
I had a book of these things, they were really easy. It's almost impossible for me using my monitor though.
I had a book of these things, they were really easy. It's almost impossible for me using my monitor though.
You mean I've been staring at these things for nothing!? Damn there goes another 5 minuets wasted...
Stereograms are awesome. I thought about making a thread before, but never did. Good on you for doing it, mate.
Dude I just did the facebook quiz on this.
One of these was on Seinfeld. "Spaceship!"
OK I've been staring at them for 30 minutes and nothings fucking happening. HOW I DO???
Can we atleast know what's hidden in the picture?
these never work with me.
Can we atleast know what's hidden in the picture?
A fish. I think.
You might have seen this one or ones similar to this one. I have scanned and converted some of these so I know. With your image above, if you can cross your eyes and see it the image is reveresed and looks like a negative. You have to switch the sides because your left eye image is on the right, and vice versa. Again if you can cross your eyes and see them, this corrected version will look 3D. This is just FYI, I just wanted to point out to everyone that these type of stereoviews are reversed unless used with a stereoscope.
Can we atleast know what's hidden in the picture?

A fish. I think.
It's a shark, I think.
it's a shark. I'm pretty good at these things but damn it's hard doing it on a monitor when you have text all over the place. [editline]07:24PM[/editline] that and the light is raping my eyes.
I can't actually see these even with the right gear. The lack of sight in my right eye really fucks fun shit up.
These kinds come out inverted for me.
You are going cross-eyed, not wall eyed. i cant go wall-eyed whenever I want, so put your face really slose the the screen and focus on something behind it.
Parallel viewing images are almost fucking impossible to see when they get big enough.
It's a shark. Head left, tail right. The animated one is cool, waving its head. The signature is very hard to do. A friend of mine owns two books with 50 of those pictures. [editline]11:59PM[/editline] Stereo audio files are kicking rad too. The barber shop one on youtube gives me chills.
Stereogram_Tut_Random_Dot_Shark.png
I have a book with these. once you know how to do them it is easy but learning is so hard. And your signature is really hard to see.
Parallel viewing images are almost fucking impossible to see when they get big enough.
When I first viewed the full-size corset one, I moved about 15 feet from the monitor and slowly went forward to test how big the images could be before my eyes gave out. Turns out that about 2 feet away I can't do it. And I remember that when I was younger, I would get scolded from my dad fro various things. instead of paying attention and heeding his words, I inadvertently used stereographic vision to give him three eyes and made a joke of the event. When I tried explaining it to my friends, they had no idea what i was talking about. A couple of years later, I found a Magic Eye book in a school library, and viewed the images until I memorized them. From that point on, I called them "Magic Eyes". Some time later, when I was bored and had access to the Internet, I searched "Magic Eyes" and got various websites calling them "stereograms". I was feeling confident that only Magic Eye made such images, and searched for the definition of these so-called "stereograms". I felt pretty stupid after that. You can also do stereograms with ASCII. Let me try this one.
OIWEQPOISDFBKJFOIWEQPOISDFBKJFOIWEQPOISDFBKJFOIWEQPOISDFBKJF EDGHOUIEROUIYWEVDGHOXUIEROIYWEVDGHEOXUIEOIYWEVDGHEOXUIEOIYWE KJBSVDBOIWERTBAKJBSVEDBOIWRTBAKJBSOVEDBOWRTBAKJBSOVEDBOWRTBA SFDHNWECTBYUVRGSFDHNYWECTBUVRGSFDHCNYWECBUVRGSFDHCNYWECBUVRG HNOWFHLSFDGWVRGHNOWFGHLSFDWVRGHNOWSFGHLSDWVRGHNLOWSFGLSDWVRG YPOWVXTNWFECHRGYPOWVEXTNWFCHRGYPOWNVEXTNFCHRGYPWOWNVETNFCHRG SVYUWXRGTWVETUISVYUWVXRGTWVETUISVYUWVXRGWVETUISVYUWVXRGWVETU WVERBYOIAWEYUIVWVERBEYOIAWEYUIVWVERBEYOIWEYUIVWLVERBEOIWEYUI EUIOETOUINWEBYOEUIOEWTOUINWEBYOEUIOEWTOUNWEBYOETUIOEWOUNWEBY WFVEWVETN9PUW4TWFVEWPVETN9UW4TWFVETWPVET9UW4TWFBVETWPET9UW4T NOUWQERFECHIBYWNOUWQXERFECIBYWNOUWFQXERFCIBYWNOFUWFQXRFCIBYW VEHWETUQECRFVE[VEHWERTUQECFVE[VEHWQERTUQCFVE[VEOHWQERUQCFVE[ UIWTUIRTWUYWQCRUIWTUYIRTWUWQCRUIWTXUYIRTUWQCRUIBWTXUYRTUWQCR IYPOWOXNPWTHIECIYPOWTOXNPWHIECIYPONWTOXNWHIECIYLPONWTXNWHIEC R9UHWVETPUNRQYBR9UHWVETPUNRQYBR9UHWVETPUNRQYBR9UHWVETPUNRQYB
I would say that "Wiggle-Grams" are cheating. Look: There's no effort at all to see it. Way too easy. I edited the original post to include the picture behind the autostereograms. And Magic Eye books always include the images in the back of the book in case you can't get them right.

I never get tired of those.
