ScienceDaily (July 6, 2009) — Injections of THC, the active principle of cannabis, eliminate dependence on opiates (morphine, heroin) in rats deprived of their mothers at birth. The findings could lead to therapeutic alternatives to existing substitution treatments.
Previously, Daugé and her colleagues had shown that rats deprived of their mothers at birth become hypersensitive to the rewarding effect of morphine and heroin (substances belonging to the opiate family), and rapidly become dependent.
To these rats, placed under stress from birth, the researchers intermittently administered increasingly high doses of THC (5 or 10 mg/kg) during the period corresponding to their adolescence (between 35 and 48 days after birth). By measuring their consumption of morphine in adulthood, they observed that, unlike results previously obtained, the rats no longer developed typical morphine-dependent behavior.

Just bits copied.
Pretty neat huh?
Keep smokin' yo :350:
great now I can shoot up guilt free :D
Poor rats. They deprived rats of their mothers at birth for this? Bastards.
Poor rats are probably high as a kite.
I still don't support legalisation.
I still don't support legalisation.
because you have no idea about it. no idea about how many jobs it would create and how many deaths it would stop. i know you'll disagree, but it would create jobs like the tobacco industry has and would stop deaths due to stuff like gang related issues. think about it.

Yes damn those terrible people who take animals that eat their own offspring away from their mothers at birth so we can save human lives
Studies like this are fucking annoying when they're turned into "legalize it" arguments.
Idiots are arguing the wrong fucking point. If we legalize weed because of this, what do you think is going to happen? Some fucks somewhere are going to re-research the SHIT out of the subject, find something contradictory and have it banned again.
If you support the legalization of weed for medical benefits you are supporting it for the wrong reasons. It should be enough that we live in a free society, and in such we should have the right to control our bodies, our intake and our lifestyles. Nobody should have to do this obscure research when a legit reason is right fucking there.
Maybe so, but you don't see rats depriving babies of their mothers at birth...
There are plenty of PeTA boards on the internet.

A rat being taken away at birth=|=a human who is addicted to Morphine/heroin, durr rats lives are more important than human lives
Rats are filthy infection carrying vermin anyway.
EDIT:
great now I can shoot up guilt free :D
Your a rat?
Sigh, I give up. Still seems a harsh thing to do.
I'll give £10 to charity if any major news outlets publicize this AND give a good stance.

Humans are totally incomparable to rats.
on a moral level or worth.

Too bad the argument that we live in a "free society" is fucking useless.
At least if people come up with legitimate reasons it might be legalized one day.
myname is chris
Too bad the argument that we live in a "free society" is fucking useless.
It's only useless because of people like you who treat it like nonsense. You think medical practicality trumps personal liberty? Please, count how many wars have been fought over the prior compared to the latter.
It's the only argument you need.
Too bad the argument that we live in a "free society" is fucking useless.
Poor rats. They deprived rats of their mothers at birth for this? Bastards.
They're RATS for god's sake. You know why we use rat as an insult? I mean god damn, RATS, guy. They are vermin, expendable animals that contribute nothing but strife to humanity and are now being useful and you want mercy?

It's a bullshit argument and is never going to help towards the legalization of weed. And yes, in the eyes of the people who are in power, medical practicality does trump personal liberty. Idiot.
