Officials said on Tuesday that they had arrested a 31-year-old man living in a refugee home after two Chinese students reported being sexually assaulted in recent months near Bochum University. The suspect is described as being an Iraqi asylum seeker, who came to Germany in 2015 and lived with his wife and two children near the scene of the two attacks, state prosecutors said. In August a 21-year-old student from China reported that a man had seriously injured her and attempted to rape her. Then in November, a 27-year-old student also from China reported that she was attacked and raped by a man. Prosecutors accuse the man of attempted murder, rape and aggravated assault. The suspect has disputed the charges, according to prosecutors. The decisive evidence that led to the man's arrest reportedly came from the second victim's partner. He noticed a man in the bushes near where the 27-year-old woman had been attacked and started taking numerous pictures on his phone, before the man ran away. Police said these photos allowed them to identify the suspect living at the refugee home. The man was then arrested after a DNA test was conducted and linked him to both attacks. Police are now investigating whether he could be connected to other crimes. The case has also raised the discussion of using DNA evidence found at crime scenes to determine characteristics of suspects, like hair, eye, or skin colour, to narrow down police searches. This is currently not allowed, but has also been brought up after the arrest of a 17-year-old Afghan teen in the rape and murder of a young woman in Freiburg. If I'm not mistaken, it however currently only returns percentage values which may help focus the investigation, but aren't enough to ask for public participation (but I guess that would be a bad idea with fuzzy descriptions anyway) or to exclude suspects by look alone.

One, I had no idea that was possible, and two, why is that not allowed?
Because it's racist to describe a suspect, as taught by Sweden
Not sure how legit that source is when our Police are doing exactly what's "forbidden" according to Spiesa. Oh great, another news post which I can't find on any german news site or the taxpaid news channel which I pay more money for than Amazon Prime. Let me guess, this would lower the approval rating of Angela Merkel, who wants to be Chancelor again next year.

The Tagesschau [main German state news broadcast] linked that page hours ago in their news feed and now has a video segment linked from the front page. I came across this randomly a few hours ago, so you really can't say it's hidden at all.

It's a shame. It's the last thing these Chinese students expected. You can bet their families back in China will blame the German government for letting in these migrants.

The malevolent part of me wishes that these crimes occur only to spineless shitstains who were on moral crusade ostracizing and shaming people who had problems with immigration while it was happening (and yes, this was happening so much on here during the events that it's not even funny), who are hidden up in their holes now. They think that if they bring one bag of goods to asylum center that they did their part, while I'm fairly certain that every single one of them would rebel were there a asylum center to be build in their neighborhood. Every action has it's consequences, and if consequences have to happen, I'd rather they happen to people who made the scenario possible or were supporting it in the first place.
