A school in Sydney paid tribute to a teacher alleged to be a "notorious molester" with an inscription on its memorial gates that read "he touched us all", Australia's royal commission has heard.
Former Knox Grammar School student Scott Ashton told the inquiry he was deeply confused by the memorial at the school, the response of which to the abuse allegations is the subject of the investigation.
Ashton said that Bruce Barrett, who died young, was a "notorious molester" but prior to his conviction of five counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault in 2009 students were expected to pay tribute to him.
"The fact that he was so well regarded by the school despite being a notorious molester made me feel very confused and powerless," he said.
"I felt ashamed of my abuse. I was deeply ashamed and unable to discuss it with anyone."
Mr Ashton alleged that Barrett would chase and tickles his pupils, and used to announce "Watch out boys, it's a red tie day" meaning he would be caning people.

This Royal Commission has dug up some really alarming things going on not just with religious organisations, but with independent schools and other organisations that may not have religious ties
to be honest, this is really fucking sickening that the school wanted students to remember this creep despite him being a notorious molester
Dude, that is... odd.
Reminds me of Jimmy Saviles grave stone before it was removed: "It was good while it lasted"

So hold on, the guy was actually convicted previously for fiddling the kids, and they still hired him?
Mate, get that school fucking investigated.

Bad reading.
They mean that students were meant to pay tribute to him up until he was convicted. Him being a notorious molester probably means that a lot of people knew but he hadn't been convicted yet.
Still investigate the school, though. Partly due to the plaque, but also because:
Five former teachers at the prestigious school have been convicted of sexual assault, while the inquiry has heard allegations made against a further three members of staff.
This kinda remind me of my high school photographer. He was this really old creepy dude with a white beard who was so obviously interested in all the girls. He'd go out of his way to talk to them and when he was taking photos for school events 80% of the photos were girls. I even remember him inviting this girl to his place. The whole school including the teachers knew about his creepiness and it was a running joke but he was never fired or anything since nothing actually happened with him.
