So I was walking through my local park after a pretty big rainstorm to see how high the water level was.
I noticed in the mud a rusted metal tin barely sticking out of the ground.
Due to my curiosity I dug up the small tin. The thing was rusted shut.
I took it home and pretty much beat the living shit out of it with a hammer until I cracked it enough to open it.
I flipped it upside down and this fell out:

Could anyone translate what this says?
I'm wondering why the hell would someone put this in the ground like that.
Maybe it's something some kid hid and forgot about.
Maybe this is something some spy was supposed to find and it has a tiny little microphone.
Maybe it has a microchip that can be used to create a super computer bent on the destruction of all man kind.
I dunno guys, but thinking about it scares the fuck outta me.
Since I found this I've started a small but humble collection of soviet medals.
Take a look (massive image):

Awesome!
Holy shit nice find.
quick google search says it's a medal awarded for "Good Work". More specifically "Veteran of Labor/Work"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veteran_of_Labour_Medal
"It was awarded to workers for many years of diligent work in the national economy, science, culture, public education, public health, public institutions and public organizations, as well as workers, farmers and employees in recognition of their employment on reaching the seniority required for a long-service pension or retirement. It is worn on the left breast. It comes after the Valiant Labour in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 Medal in precedence. As of January 1, 1995 it had been awarded to approximately 39,197,100 people."
Looks like something from the cold war period judging by how new the thing looks and how stained the ribbon is.

I guess beating the ass out of a metal tin counts as good work.

That's a bit obvious.
Did some digging, looks like it's pretty worthless.
Still really, really cool though.
I can't confirm that this is the same medal, and yours is in a much better condition.
That's pretty damn cool
Especially as something to just find
pretty cool, i found some russian coin in my backyard while digging
sadly it wasnt worth much ..

I have a whole entire collection of soviet medals.
I don't know shit about them, I just buy them at garage sales.
Alternatively they grow out of the ground.
Should I post the rest of my collection?
It says : "For a long and conscientious work" on the first side
And "Veteran of work" on the other
I am a native speaker so this should be pretty close. Still don't know if conscientious is a right translation though. Alternative words for it are Honest and Fair
so what are the chances that a collector of soviet medals pulls a random tin can out of the ground which happens to contain a soviet medal
so what are the chances that a collector of soviet medals pulls a random tin can out of the ground which happens to contain a soviet medal
This is what sparked my collection.
I started getting them after I found this one.

he got wasted and dropped one, came back a year later and found it

You are a collector for 25 minutes?
Damn you are fast at buying stuff
You are a collector for 25 minutes?

Uh, no.
I found this medal when I was 10.
Decided to get more when I was 11.
I'm 17 now.
That blows my gramp's Defence Medal outta the water. Though mine might be a bit more valuable.
I have the strange sensation that your medal is haunted, actually. Seems exactly like some sort of Creepypasta.
It's cursed. That's why the previous owner got rid of it.
I want one. I'm a hard worker, why hasn't Comrade Stalin recognized me yet? :suicide:
I want one. I'm a hard worker, why hasn't Comrade Stalin recognized me yet? :suicide:
You can buy those types of medals for like... nothing in Berlin.
Hell, one of my friends have a medal just like the one the OP found.

There is no honor in buying this medal. One can only get it through hard work and service to the glorious motherland. Any other way is treasonous.
I guess beating the ass out of a metal tin counts as good work.

So obvious that's it's not even right.
Nothing special, they were extremely easy to obtain during the Soviet times and almost anyone who worked in an industrial location had it.
That must have been such an awesome feeling when something as cool as that medal popped out of the tin can.
I have one shaped like a cog that says "Winner of a socialist competition" or something like that in Russian.
The words on the back of the medal stand for "For many years of honest labour", and the words on the ribbon are "Veteran of labour". Like it's been already stated, it's a Veteran of Labour medal. And they weren't easy to get at all, like most of the ignorant people here claim.
Doesn't deserve a thread imo.

Did you read the story how he found it?
Doesn't deserve a thread imo.
What the fuck?! Of course it does, it's Russian!
The Ghost of Stalin resides inside of it!!!
