Will Smith is reclaiming his throne as the Prince of Bel-Air — but with a twist.
A reboot of the “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is in the works, with Smith to serve as executive producer, according to TVLine.
The site reports that Smith’s production company Overbrook Entertainment is in the very early stages of developing a modern-day version of “Fresh Prince.”
There are no details on the show’s premise or characters, but it will reportedly feature a “new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the original spirit of the series.”
According to TVLine, the pitch is close to being finalized and will be shopped around in the next few weeks.
No uncle phil, no show!
unless it provides an entirely different focal point, without a central character like uncle phil, this wouldn't get too far
Bet Jaden's the star.

It wont even make it past the pilot if thats the case. That kid cannot act to save his life.

I bet Jaden's the star and Will takes the fatherly Uncle Phil role.
:snip:
tbh i'd rather just be able to get all the episodes on netflix or something

i don't see why. fresh prince was just a cheap sitcom. which doesn't mean it wasn't a great one but nothing about it is hard to replicate except for the nostalgia value
no

you shall not surpass this greatness
i don't see why. fresh prince was just a cheap sitcom. which doesn't mean it wasn't a great one but nothing about it is hard to replicate except for the nostalgia value
nostalgia is just the one thing that worries me because it seems originality has plummeted so hard for the sake of it
don't really see this turning out so well, even with Will Smith as a producer. It'd just not be the same without James Avery playing Uncle Phil.
why not make will smith the new "uncle phil". he's about the same age
It's all about the writing an execution. Fresh Prince was lucky to have the writers and the actors to pull it off.
I read an idea for this where they do the same thing, but reversed. Essentially a snobby rich kid is sent to Philly to get street smart. Could be interesting if they go that route.

Oh. Oh no.

The series finale is the main character dying in a fight he picked with a couple of guys who were up to no good, who were causing trouble in his neighborhood.
uncle phill..
uncle will...
mmmmh
It will probably be better than the Full House reboot

Because Will Smith doesn't age.

I never saw this one, that is amazing.
Bet Jaden's the star.
Well, he's quite the character. I'ld say he's perfect for a sitcom. He wouldn't fit his old man's old role, though.
No way you can surpass the greatness that the fresh prince of bel air was
I wouldn't mind a plot where Will has kids, and while still being the, "Cool" parent, having to realize some of the things he took issue with Uncle Phil, were correct.

Is it too late to cancel the show?
Of course. Lets just reboot everything since everyone else is doing it.
