Parkway Drive - General - Facepunch Forum

[img] http://www.sauce.net.au/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/_51-parkway-drive-interview.jpg[/img] Parkway Drive, is a five piece Hardcore band from Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia. Formed in 2003 by it’s founding members, frontman Winston McCall, guitarist Luke ‘Pig’ Kilpatrick and drummer Ben Gordon. All three band members had been friends prior to the formation of Parkway Drive, attending the same high school (as did all students in Byron Bay) and surfing and playing in separate bands. Winston was told that Jeff Ling, the relatively unknown lead guitarist was exceptionally good, and after talking to him on day in the surf, invited him to jam with the forming band. He arrived at ‘the Parkway house’ on Parkway Drive the following morning to jam with the band. The ‘Parkway house’ was the only jam space the band was able to practice in throughout the town, and happened to belong to Gordon’s parents who were happy to give the basement to the band to practice in. In time, the band decided to name themselves ‘Parkway Drive’ after the street that they hung out on, and jammed together on. It’s said by Winston that they wanted a band name that wasn’t cliché or gory in any way, as they were just normal people. Within the first practice the band had composed four songs, and this had incredibly increased morale. In a lucky chance, a member of the already well known Adelaide metalcore outfit, “I Killed The Prom queen”, was in Byron Bay at the time of the band’s first show and had decided to attend. After the conclusion of the show, he approached the band and asked them if they would like to release a split EP with them. Naturally, this was the best thing possible the band could have had, and basically owe all their success to this helping hand. Over the following years, the band toured gruellingly pretty much everywhere. In time however, they had conquered the world and released two full length albums with Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz and one EP. It seems that the material that they release slowly gets better and better and personally, their latest album Horizons to me is the greatest album I’ve ever heard. Crushing breakdowns, thought provoking lyrics, not too heavy, not too soft, to me there isn’t anything not to love about this band. Only song I like from Parkway Drive is Boneyards.

It's one of the better song off horizons

This thread won't end well. I've heard Parkway Drive... They're not great.

I have never heard them so I won't comment their music. I will instead comment on how stereotypic and ugly their album covers look.

I had to cover Dead Man's Chest on drums for a band try-out (I got it the singer said I was amazing:3) And I have to say their music isn't bad its something I could get into!

I made a thread about what not to do, and people said "oh it'll be lame, nothing will be happening" Wrong I crowd surfed twice, from the middle of the crowd to the front and over the barriers, pitted multiple times and generally had the most fun ever, the crowd was great. I was only there for like 2/3 of the Parkway set though, a dude punched my friend so I had to nail him August Burns Red played too, they were amazing. You as well as others get annoyed by this even though its true because apparently being labelled under metalcore detracts away from any musical talent, which they have lots of. There is a stigma of that genre and I'm not sure why. Anyway awesome band.

I listen to them just recently. Not to bad. Going listen to more songs to see if i actually like them.

Parkway Drive is pretty much each other band other there, they do not have a sound that differentiated them from radio metal today. They exploit breakdowns for cheap energy rushes in practically 90 percent of their songs, and their riffs are pretty much a bunch of E notes with a few higher notes in order to give it that metalcore uninventive effect. They don't deserve to be called metalcore imo, there's much better bands out there, and they certainly don't deserve their popularity.
