Russia's Tolmachevy Sisters were booed in Copenhagen as they qualified for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest.
But when they progressed to the final, some sections of the 10,000-strong audience expressed apparent disapproval of the Russian artists

Ironic that a country as vehemently homophobic as Russia would enter Eurovision.

It all makes sense now, they invaded Ukraine because of their 2007 eurovision entry.

He's quite popular in Russia
Eurovision helps me appreciate bad American pop.

That is just mentally disturbing. Not because its a guy. But the whole thing in general.
This song was particularly popular back in the day

Eurovision is amazing fuck you.
Nah the best thing is when countries are giving points to each other. Doesn't exist a better indication of relationships between governments.
eh we shouldn't punish the artists for their goverment's faults, but man
that shit is like rock-polka-pop-dance-party it makes regular pop sound good
I'm so fucking ashamed of Austrians Contestant this year. I hope he didn't make it far.

Yeah, I'm sure you watched a lot of Eurovision contests and didn't hear about "sax guy" because he was spread all over the internet.
Eurovision had a lot of good songs.
Oh I fucking remember Finland 2006. They certainly rocked the arena that year.
Why the hell do countries never send out their best singers. Is it part of the rule? No famous singers allowed? Because I'm pretty sure UK would've won.
Eurovision seems like a giant acid trip. I want to go.
and lordi ofc
Lordi isn't much better to be honest

Career suicide

The best songs are the ones that don't win. Like I discovered Music Thief through Eurovision and it's still one of my favorite songs,

Famous acts can enter and have in the past entered it for the UK, notable examples include Lulu (who won it her year), Cliff Richard (who came second and third when he did it) and Katrina and the Waves (who was the last act to win for the uk in 1997) and more recently Blue (who came 11th), Engelbert Humperdinck (who came 25th) and Bonnie Tyler (who came 19th).
The issue is not if the can but if they want to, I mean sure, Eurovision is the biggest television event on the planet and it could give your career the biggest boost imaginable to both music sales and overall exposure, but if you screw it up it could be a major embarrassment.
I mean sure, no act from the uk has ever ruined their career from being in eurovision (well, bar those who deserved it) but it's not the coolest show on earth.
But with that said I like the route they are taking now by looking for new artists who can write a decent song that sounds relevant to today's music and actually looks as if some kind of effort was made, makes a welcome change to the usual hasbeens and neverwases we've had of late.

Lordi was a thing long before their Eurovision victory.
Though it did change how people perceive them. Before Eurovision me and my sisters were big fans of Lordi and everyone else basically laughed at us. Then suddenly they win Eurovision and "OMG THEY'RE THE BEST THING EVER!!!"

Even funnier was the outrage some people had when Lordi won the right to enter Eurovision. They even tried to pressure YLE into another vote, since the only thing Finland wanted to send that year was awful pop-music.
Then we get Krista Siegfried in there and she restarts the awful pop-music loop, which never got us anywhere.
Let's not forget this Eurovision gem

As a country we loved it when we won. We still watch it now but we mainly do so to begrudge all the other countries, especially Eastern European ones who we constantly accuse of block voting. Then we hypocritically get mad at the UK for not giving us votes despite us giving them votes haha
Well, these guys were trolling the whole contest in 1980. They wanted to be on last place, but finished 17th out of 19 contestants.
