I am fortunate enough to not have any major spoilers in the title, though those who have not seen the movie may have thought it was. No, in fact I have amassed a theory that has such a high percentage of being true that it probably is, and would make "Avatar" a much better movie in my opinion.
As you all seen in the trailers, there are floating fucking mountains. The only explanation given in the film for these amazing feats of nature is "Electromagnetism," and while extreme electromagnetism would be capable of doing such a thing if the mountains were made of the right material, something that strong would also undoubtedly have some unintended side effects. These side effects include neutralizing every single electronic system that passes through the Electromagnetic Field, generating random currents of electricity after a single shift in position on a conductive surface (mostly across the brain and heart), and sucking every single magnetic item in the future-helichopter out into the air.
This is where the plot thickens, random currents of electricity across the brain would generate memory loss, hallucination, psychotic events, and seizures (thanks to insultingly stupid movie physics for that one). To not give anything away, after this scene, the shit hits the fan. Hard. Characters lose traits, become more black and white, and get overall weird (see thread: Hot Na'avi Sex for details).
To which comes my assumption that two-thirds of the film as a hallucination drawn out by Jake Sulley's mind in the same way dreams can seem like hours during a thirty minute nap; which ends in [sp]him achieving his ultimate goal and coming to terms with death.[/sp]
don't forget about the unobtainium and low gravity
oh shit you may be on to something
Eh, the Pokemon coma theory is better.
but James Cameron is straight-edge
don't forget about the unobtainium and low gravity
The low gravity shown in the movie can't make mountains float, and I know in the original cut the mountains were made of unobtanium, but in the theatrical one my theory makes more sense.

It's all a dream makes more sense than movie science?
omfg
:words:
Or, maybe it's just a movie and a work of fiction.
Maybe the mountains are magical.
Maybe the mountains are magical.
This.
I will find where James Cameron lives and shove my foot up his billionaire ass if the sequel even goes near the idea that this is all an hallucination/dream/lolurdeadbutstilldreamingsomehow
If it were a hallucination, it'd probably have less to do with electromagnetism and super-conductors and more with those giant-ass mushrooms. Sully be trippin' fuckin' balls man.
Maybe it's just a movie? Did you ever think about that?
but James Cameron is straight-edge
explain the dream in terminator 2 then
yeah this can't be real
i mean how are we seeing it in real time if pandora is so far away
wouldn't it be limited by the speed of light

Avatar fits

Why do you think it took so long to make it?
Pretty weak evidence.
don't forget about the unobtainium and low gravity
Impossibletocollectium.
Hey man. There's this new thing out there. Not sure if you know about it, but I think it's called movie physics. It's like cool stuff that allows sounds in space and shit.
[editline]04:42AM[/editline]
real scientific stuff, y'know.
BREAKING NEWS!
This just in:
Move physics are wrong. Wow, never knew the day would come, ey Bob?
OP is a hallucination. And we're all plugged into a giant computer.
Avatar fits
OP, enlighten us, what is Jake Sully's ultimate goal? Why would he be dying?
Eh, the Pokemon coma theory is better.
Yeah much better.
You get better sex if your not analytical.
Yes then he wakes up and it's that guy from Fight Club
ITT: Op doesn't recognize real life between science fiction film :downs:.
Eh, the Pokemon coma theory is better.
Shit blew my mind.
Actually, the lore mentions the fact that miners near unobtainum deposits basically start dying if they work in the extreme electromagnetic fields for long. It also mentions that the equipment on Pandora is made from materials designed to resist magnetic fields.
In the film lore unobtainum is a room level superconductor which also traps magnetic fields, and Pandora's magnetic field is hundreds of times stronger than Earth's (which is still not strong enough to affect metal or humans.) On a small scale superconductors can levitate given magnetic fields, why not on a large scale with those mountains?
I'm not too worried about the specifics, since that would mean I couldn't enjoy films like Star Wars (lightsabres, forcefields) or Star Trek (warp travel, teleportation.) Oh, and pretty much any sci-fi with holograms or psychics in them, which seem to be most of them (seriously, psychics? yeah, that's real scientific.)
you mean like lsd or acid :350:
