• Russia halts Lithuania dairy imports in trade row
    13 replies, posted
Russia has halted imports of Lithuanian dairy produce amid tensions over EU plans to forge closer ties with ex-Soviet republics. Russia's consumer watchdog said the levels of yeast and mould in Lithuanian dairy produce were unacceptable. Lithuania is already involved in a bitter dispute with Russia over the cost of Russian gas, which Moscow's former Soviet bloc allies rely on. Lithuania is leading EU efforts to sign new trade deals with those countries. Russia's consumer watchdog Rospotrebnadzor has previously imposed various bans on food and drink imported from former Soviet neighbours, for example on wine from Georgia and Moldova, citing health concerns. In July Russia halted imports of chocolate from the big Ukrainian firm Roshen.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24433418
Stopping international trade with a country isn't going to make them like you more and be willing to trade with you.

I have been to Lithuania and it's probably not going to surprise many to hear this - Lithuanian food is held to far higher standard than Russian food. Russia is full of shit and just wants to bully Lithuania into obedience and to scare them and other countries from EU.
85% of Lithuania's export market is in Russia, they have no choice.
I'm sure it'll hurt Lithuania in the short term, but in the long term I can only see this as pushing them closer to the EU than to Russia. Blackmail only works so far.
Shit won't change until all the Ex-CCCP politicians die out. And new blood come in.
And then what happens?
Everyone stares at Kalinigrad/Ostprussia, then is like. Whatcha doing there Russia.
Oh God, not The Foreign Cheeses!!!!!
Totally not an oppressive regime
EU oughta build some pipelines to the the Baltic states.
I wonder, where do they find experts that can say, that our dairy products are shit?
And yet Russia wonders why countries near them prefer the EU to their proposed Eurasian union.
