Akayz was talking about this.
Basically recent bands or albums that will be looked back on as classics in the future.
I don't know what time period counts as recent.
I'm thinking Muse will definitely be a future classic. Going to put down Origin of Symmetry since it's my favourite.
Arcade Fire as well, since they're great and have also met grrreat success.
Takk... by Sigur Rós I'm thinking will be considered a classic album, I think Ágætis byrjun is already considered one.
I like to think Hospice by The Antlers will be a classic too, but I know nothing about general opinion.
Got a feeling XX by The xx will be considered a classic too.
Also Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends maybe, if only for the sake of having an even number of albums in the op.
Plenty other albums I'd like to think of as classic but I'll be an old guy talking about music that nobody's heard of from watching the unpopular music channels, showing all the old music from the old times that old people will like and maybe some kids with old parents.
Anyway album cover spam.

I will always hope that the Red Hot Chili Peppers' albums become classic because they make some brilliant funk music.

I really need to listen to that album more. I've listened to the whole thing maybe once but I wasn't really paying much attention.
Also, pretty sure this got popularish.

These are out of my comfort zone, but still good enough

I also just realised the bore of the Speakerboxxx cover, it doesn't seem anything like a memorable album.
Agree on the Speakerboxxx cover thing. I keep thinking of great albums and realising how rubbish their covers are. It bothers me.
Also Lady Gaga's teeth make her look like a rabbit on that cover. I can't avoid it I am strange.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik is already considered a classic
This goes against my personal opinion but I'm thinking this is going to end up being a classic.

Maybe only for metal fans, but I think Crack the Skye will be considerd a classic.
I think most people would be able to agree on this one. Especially in regards with the whole "free" deal.

I have no idea, most likely won't be any popmusic. Most popmusic seem to come and go.

Like NSYNC and Backstreet Boys? I despise the music, but I secretly know all the words to the songs when they come on the radio :(.
I love that Porcupine Tree album, but I don't think it's quite as universal as bands like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were. I think the classics will be more pop rock or indie bands, unfortunately.
ITT: People just post their favorite albums that have been released in recent years.

We all seem to remember the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, Madonna, Journey, and ABBA.

Lateralus will be a classic, but not Aenima imo.

Not just this album, but the whole band.

It's entirely possible for it to go either way. Forward thinking and progressive music is coming back in a big way in serious music-listening circles. In Absentia is definitely one of the defining albums of the last decade's prog movement, by one of the biggest bands. It's entirely possible. At the very least it will be remembered in prog circles, it'll definitely be a cult album IMO

Oh, I wholly agree on it being a classic for those who listen to Prog. It's one of my favorite albums ever, and it got me into Progressive as a genre. Which is now my favorite. In Absentia is one of my most played albums and is one of the few I went out to buy because it affected me so much.
Bands you like =/= classics. None in the OP will become classics, and neither the majority of this thread.

Noone has commented on anything I posted here.
They are significant albums to respective genres :smug:

I agree. The only group I've seen on here that might some day be a classic is Muse. Im not really a big fan, but they are quite popular right now and have a sort of catchiness about them that might end up making them long lasting.
[editline]2nd December 2010[/editline]
And I don't really even like Muse.

Meshuggah is great but will never become 'classic'
