WWE legend Chyna -- real name Joanie Laurer -- has died ... and officials are investigating as a possible overdose, TMZ Sports has learned.
TMZ Sports has learned she was in a home in Redondo Beach, CA ... south of L.A. -- and police got the call around 7:30 PM. Officers are on scene right now. We're told they are investigating as a possible overdose ... due mainly to her history with drugs.
Chyna was 45-years-old.
A statement was posted to Chyna's official Twitter account confirming the death ... saying, "It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero."
"She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her."
Chyna was a game changer during her stint with the WWE -- famously teaming up with Triple H to become one of the original members of D-Generation X. She was also the first woman to enter the Royal Rumble.
Chyna went on to pose for Playboy before transitioning to reality TV. She appeared on "The Surreal Life" in 2005.
Later, Chyna got into porn ... releasing 6 films from 2004 to 2013.
aaaa wtf she was a legend.
Damn. Just damn.
Shame she'll never get into the HOF
It's very heartbreaking because of her dilemma with Triple H and trying to resolve things, however she ended up making mistakes and it ended up making things worse and this..just this is too sad to see her come to this. Rip
Jesus, she was a legend. And so young. Fuck drug addiction, man.
A true pioneer in the wrestling business, RIP.
She had a pretty fucked life after leaving WWF. Drugs, Porn, all that shit
Such a huge shame, it's ridiculous how many WWE/WWF wrestlers have drug addictions.
It's a shame that she never had the chance to recover from her drug abuse. Thank god they force wrestlers to take care of themselves so there wont be another generation of people destroying their bodies trying to fit into the mold of Hulk Hogan and the giants of the 80s.

They do so much better now, although if CM Punk is to be believed, their medical care is still lacking.
It is.
They're not allowed to get all off in the "supplements" any more but the coverage they have for actual injuries is bullshit compared to what they have to pay to get it in the first place.
As for Chyna I can't really say I'm surprised at all, she had a lot of public demons and refused to get counseling.
Later Days 9th wonder.

I think with the concussion lawsuits and the whole CM Punk podcast thing injury care has actually improved a ton, if the massive list of injured wrestlers is anything to go by. Without Punk putting the doctors to the fire i'd feel like some of these guys would still be wrestling while needing treatment.

I wonder how much of this has to do with steroids* as well as the general presence of rampant drug use in the entertainment industry as well.
*I'm not saying I care that they are using steroids, but these people are literally professional body builders acting out plays on a stage. It's more than likely that a good portion of them are using steroids.
A series of quite thought provoking tweets on the matter.

Bullshit there was plenty of work for wrestlers post WCW and the reason why WWE haven't touched her with a barge pole in the past 15 years because she was a bitter mess, accusing HHH and x-pac of raping and abusing her and calling HHH a peadophile.
You'd think after Benoit they would do better to take care of people but it doesn't look like it's ever gonna change.

To be fair WWE didn't introduce her to porn. Modelling for playboy =/= painting yourself green and getting dicked by Thor.
holy shit, she was just vlogging on youtube a few days ago
