A transgender woman has been expelled from her social club after an incident in the ladies loo. Hinoi Tonkin, who used to be 21-stone Keith but has slimmed down to nine stone, was already under suspension at the club. But she was formally thrown out after a meeting of the committee last week at Beechwood, Easterside and District Social Club in Middlesbrough, Cleveland. Hinoi was accused of swearing and behaviour which disturbed other members but had denied the charge.
Source: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/real-life-stories/transgender-woman-hinoi-tonkin-expelled-2475078
The title really makes it seem like it had something to do with her being trans.
How is this newsworthy?
from reading the article it seems like it's the club that is in the wrong here. she's routinely harassed at it, yet as soon as she does something (that's not even extreme for a club bathroom) she's kicked out? and also, from the pictures that's an amazing transformation
The title really makes it seem like it had something to do with her being trans.
She's saying she is under the impression that is the real reason behind it, but there is so little detail in the article its impossible to say at all. As it stands, its entirely plausible she was just kicked out because of the way she acted though it does seem like a harsh punishment for a single offense. There is too much unknown to say.
Yes when I am in bathrooms with other people I commonly find myself hitting my head against the wall too.
i said it wasn't that extreme not that it's common. and it's not like she just did it for no reason, from the sounds of it it was a kind of stress freakout thing because she was being harassed.
Yes when I am in bathrooms with other people I commonly find myself hitting my head against the wall too.
Probably not appropriate behavior, but its a single, minor offense that doesn't really justify being kicked out.
She said: “I admit nutting my head off the wall in the ladies toilet hoping it would cause enough damage that I would not come around."
I can see how this would be distressing
just sayin' its hardly transphobia even with that, if you cause a big shitstorm over being "harassed" then all you are doing is giving them more of a reason to react to you because of what you did, not because of who you are. plus private industry yo
she says she was being harassed for being a transgender, that sounds like transphobia to me. and okay, so sure it's a private club and they can do what they want, doesn't mean they can't be criticized for it YO
i said it wasn't that extreme not that it's common. and it's not like she just did it for no reason, from the sounds of it it was a kind of stress freakout thing because she was being harassed.
She could have easily called transphobia to discredit an organization. Its a possibility.
trans people can do nothing wrong, if anything bad happens to them its because their trans and therefor are right!!!
Strawmen are easy targets, aren't they?
trans people can do nothing wrong, if anything bad happens to them its because their trans and therefor are right!!!
i read the article, it's got her side of the story and noone elses because the club refused to present theirs. i'm more inclined to believe a transgendered person has been discriminated against because it happens very often.
Probably not appropriate behavior, but its a single, minor offense that doesn't really justify being kicked out.
Except most clubs etc have a clause that allows them to cancel your membership if you cause injury to yourself/others or act in a threatening manner. I don't know how hitting your head against a wall as a mature adult can be called a "minor offense" either.
She could have easily called transphobia to discredit an organization. Its a possibility.
yes it is a possibility, but i'm not gonna assume that
i read the article, it's got her side of the story and noone elses because the club refused to present theirs. i'm more inclined to believe a transgendered person has been discriminated against because it happens very often.
You will also notice that she refused to attend the hearing in the first place.
title made me think rockstar social club
doctor zedacon and lachz0r the heroes of transgender people, fighting for their rights on sensationalist headlines, so brave, so heroic
so, what does her being trans have to do with this?
You will also notice that she refused to attend the hearing in the first place.
look you're the one who posted the article in the first place if you just came in here to do your strawman devils advocate bullshit about how this transgender person is in the wrong 100%(which she may very well be, we don't know the whole story) then just stop while you're ahead.
Except most clubs etc have a clause that allows them to cancel your membership if you cause injury to yourself/others or act in a threatening manner.
Its not like she pulled out a gun or a knife and started threatening to off herself or swung madly at those around her.
I don't know how hitting your head against a wall as a mature adult can be called a "minor offense" either.
Because its a singular act in which no one was hurt? Did she bang her head against the President's favorite toilet wall?
yeah i can say im being harassed for several reasons, doesnt mean its true or has any merit don't get me wrong I don't give a shit if someone is trans or not, but i'm still going to talk shit about people that abuse it as a reason to call discrimination when anything bad happens to them socially
well, i guess i give people the benefit of the doubt when they say they've been abused for a specific reason rather than assume they're making it up
from the article it sounds like she gets harassed for being trans and in a female bathroom, gets mad, starts a fight, gets kicked out not necessarily transphobia on the clubs part but still kind of shitty for all parties involved.
look you're the one who posted the article in the first place if you just came in here to do your strawman devils advocate bullshit about how this transgender person is in the wrong 100%(which she may very well be, we don't know the whole story) then just stop while you're ahead.
Actually I was just referencing the 5th paragraph of the article:
"She refused to attend the hearing but it went ahead in her absence and club secretary Mick Smith informed her of the decision by letter."
I didn't know that referencing an article was "strawman devils advocate bullshit".
doctor zedacon and lachz0r the heroes of transgender people, fighting for their rights on sensationalist headlines, so brave, so heroic
i hate it when people discuss topics on forums i just hate it. i also hate people supporting minorities. i do love making pointless sardonic comments though
doctor zedacon and lachz0r the heroes of transgender people, fighting for their rights on sensationalist headlines, so brave, so heroic
Well, given that I am trans I suppose I do feel some small obligation to not let idiots and bigots run their mouths. And can you point out what is wrong with trying to stand up for minorities? Why is that so awful? (Also, you are a bigot as evidenced by your posts in the other thread, so that is worth noting.)
well, i guess i give people the benefit of the doubt when they say they've been abused for a specific reason rather than assume they're making it up
Most importantly if you want to hear reasoning it would be important to attend the hearing at which such a decision is made. Refusing to attend the hearing and then claiming you are being discriminated against is a bit ridiculous.
Actually his username seems familiar, now I'm 100% sure he posted this so he can cause a shitstorm. He's done it before if I remember right, just recently, too.
He just got off a ban for transphobic shitposting.
because she's calling discrimination the article literally gave a reason as to why the person was kicked out, and then said person admitted to doing it. club did what it did and they were in the right.
she also pointed out she'd been abused for being transgendered, she also pointed out people have done worse and not been punished.
