COLUMBUS, Ohio (CBS Cleveland) — A 15-year-old Columbus boy was hospitalized for dehydration after locking himself in his room to play an Xbox game for four consecutive days.
WCMH-TV reports that Tyler Rigby collapsed and was rushed to the hospital Tuesday after a “Modern Warfare 3” marathon that left him severely dehydrated.
“It’s like he was looking at me but he wasn’t there. It was like he was looking through me,” Jennifer Thompson, Tyler’s aunt, told WCMH. “We were talking and I heard a thump and I looked over and he just fell.”

Jessie Rawlins, Tyler’s mom, said he came out of his bedroom to eat a snack or use the bathroom.
“I was very scared. I thought he was going to die,” Rawlins told the station. “He just fell over three times.”
Tyler is expected to be OK after medics pumped his body full of fluids, but he won’t be playing video games anytime soon.
“The Xbox is gone,” Rawlins told the station.
People these days.
Why does it always have to be Modern Warfare 3? Why can't he be hospitalized after playing a decent game?
I'm all for being a useless piece of shit and playing games all day, several days in a row, but christ, how do you manage to not care care of your own body to the point you pass out?

I mean I've gone a day without eating because I just got Civ5 on release, and stayed up 50+ hours straight to play D&D, but playing CoD until you pass out from dehydration is just idiocy on the kid's part although I am wondering why the parents didn't check up on him if he was barely leaving his room. (assuming that was out of the ordinary)
Where the fuck were his parents this whole time? didn't they get concerned at all? or come check on him at all?
It only mentions that they came to check on him when they heard a thud
Impressive. I was sick after 4 straight minutes.

because people playing decent games tend to have common sense
If this ends up in Activision being sued, it was worth it
How could he even stay up for that long? When I'm hungry and thirsty I get tired as fuck. Even when I'm not I can't hold more than 48 hours at best.
How did xbox not RROD :v:
This actually reminds me of a friend of mine who cloistered himself away in his room for months, like a recluse. He ended up getting an infection from a very minor injury and eventually had to get his leg amputated as a result.
It boggles my mind how people can be so oblivious to their own (extremely basic) needs.
Good, one more person has been deprived of Xbox. Hopefully he'll actually venture to the computer now - or - go outside.

I think it was his fault for staying up four nights in a row not the games maker.

Sounds like a dumb ass man, sorry to break it to you.

The thing about very minor injuries is that they are very minor; It was literally a scratch. By the time it progressed to the point where it was noticeable, he already had a bad case of sepsis, and the damage was done.
*edit*
That said, if he had been less of a hermit and actually socialized, I'm sure it could have been avoided.
This is kinda creepy if you think about it.
I can't understand how he was able to do four days. I can't even force myself to play past 30 minutes.

I couldn't even start it up

They have pills for that, you know.
This is why S. Korea puts time limits on games. Those crazy gamers over there know all too well what gaming binges do to the human body. :v:
I've said it before and I'll say it again:
Natural selection.

Yeah except he's not dead.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say he's not genetically predisposed to not be able to stop playing CoD.

Do you really think he's going to get much tail after this?
I think at this point, playing for that long without any regard for his own well-being, it should be considered addiction. There's no way doing something like that for so long obsessively like that shouldn't be. I mean think about it, if you look at porn for more than 8 hours, technically you are considered addicted.

I was under the impression that this was obvious.
Some people are just so desperate to prestige.. Lol'd when it said his xbox has been took off of him.

Honestly when establishing the ins and outs of sex, the question "have you ever passed out after a 4 day CoD marathon?" tends to be a rather rare question.

Yes but when he gets on the news for gaming until he thumps on the floor,do you think they're going to consider him the same sporty hunk?

I don't imagine that this is super national news and making headlines everywhere do you?
A Microsoft product lasting 4 days in a row?
I am impressed.
When I play too long, my PC mostly gets a bluescreen, makes updates, freezes
or some other stupid shit that hinders me to play games.
Then I get pissed, shut the damn thing off and go to sleep.
You could say MS poor products saved my life.
