China scraps construction of 85 coal power plants, plans to invest $360 billion on renewable energy
China has suspended 85 planned coal power plants in a bid to meet a government coal capacity target laid out in its latest plan for social and economic development.
In the report's electricity chapter, Beijing committed to a coal capacity cap of 1,100GW, however the new builds would have taken that figure to 1250GW, breaching the Government-set limit.
It came after the NEA said it would plough 2.5 trillion yuan ($360 billion) into renewable power generation by 2020, as the world's largest energy market continues to shift away from coal power towards cleaner fuels.
The investment will reportedly create over 13 million jobs in the sector, with the agency estimating renewable power capacity including wind, hydro, solar and nuclear power will contribute to about half of new electricity generation by 2020.
China and the US, the two countries that account for 38 per cent of global carbon emissions, ratified the Paris Climate Accord in 2016, promising to reduce carbon emissions to limit temperature increases.
that's certainly a lot more money china is spending on increasing capacity than the USA is right now
Australian government probably just got a bit worried.
360 billion
This is US military numbers.
Good. This is the way to move. Phase out coal and natural gas for the electrical grid, replace it with nuclear and hydroelectric.
Now if only the US could do the same. C'mon even alternatives like wind power is cheap to build and maintain, yet we're using the more expensive, dirty, and life-endangering coal.

As well they should, total failure to read which way the wind is blowing
While Russia and the U.S. wrestle over who can fuck up their country more, China is quietly enjoying their ascent to global world power.
i feel like china is borrowing from sony's strategy during the ps4/xbone release build up
Communism certainly is showing it's power this century while we are still twinning our thumbs they are doing it in regards to every from weapons projects that seam from the the coal war to constructs of new cities along with producing most of the worlds goods.
Now that China has done it, America will feel like doing it. Thanks chyna
Global Warming is just a myth perpetrated by the Chinese, the communists, the socialists, and worst of all, scientists!
Why else would they spend so much money on it? They're clearly pulling the wool over our eyes. Wake up sheeple.

China hasn't properly been communist for decades. It's a capitalism-based society now.
And this was a great concern because everyone in China is buying cars and setting up factories and shitting up the atmosphere with an incredible load of pollutants on top of what the rest of the world was already emitting. So, China making moves towards renewable energy is a great thing.
Amazing. Truly. Having one of the greatest powers in the world do this will hopefully send a message across the world.
Well, maybe except for United States of Trump.
Guess which country got shat on for years for investing in renewable technology and will sell the Chinese a lot of the tech now?

Yes, Belgium!
Hydro is renewable, but it sure as hell isn't clean.
maybe america losing it's empire for china isn't all bad
Hydro is renewable, but it sure as hell isn't clean.
Why is it not clean?
meanwhile wyoming is making it illegal to sell renewable power in state...
that's certainly a lot more money china is spending on increasing capacity than the USA is right now
China saw that Trump was calling them out on their Global Warming Hoax, and now they're so desperate to convince him that they're hoaxing themselves.
360 billion
This is US military numbers.
That is 360 billion in next 3 years, USA spends/loses 600 billion on military each year, so that is 360 vs 1800, meaning only 20% of what USA will spend on its military in next 3 years.
Why is it not clean?
Because you need to destroy the natural flow of the river with a dam and sink entire valleys to build an artificial lake.
China hasn't properly been communist for decades. It's a capitalism-based society now.
No country has ever been properly communist. And China today isn't exactly a free market capitalist economy with the exception of SEZ's.
Am I the only one that finds this weird?
Suddenly China trying to go green with the rush of a crowbar wielding mad man in a box factory?

Have you seen pictures of big Chinese cities?

Seems like a pretty logical move to me.

You'd be rushing to green energy as well if your air was as thick as cardboard

Because the government has so much more control over the centralized economy, they can make much faster progress than western countries can by essentially dictating how energy policy is executed, with no private interests or lobbies to stop them.
Those damn Chinese sure are going far to sell their climate change scam, amirite :weeb:
By the way guys, some nuclear fuels like Thorium are found in high deposits in China (But China doesn't have a complete monopoly over rare earths). There are some large rare earth deposits in NA and SA but not ones that compare with China.
They've been steadily increasing export costs for rare earths (Thorium included) and we (US) need to get our asses in gear considering we experimented/invented with some of the technology in the first place.
