:britain:Argentina has brought in controls on ships passing through its waters to the islands over UK plans to drill for oil. Fuck, not again.
I can't wait for The Sun headlines.
I bet the UK will win.
Shit's going down, I can feel it. I would laugh if, after all the hype over North Korea and Iran, Argentina is the next country we go to war with.
good luck argentina, you're gonna need it
Not another fucking war ...

nothing better than winning a war to boost peoples' morale
because it's ours god dammit [editline]03:31PM[/editline] pussy
what did he say? tell us
what did he say? tell us
why do they (UK) want an island thousands of miles away, or something
lol, because there is oil there http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/highlands_and_islands/8519694.stm A rig being towed to the Falkland Islands from Scotland should start drilling for oil and gas from next week, a company involved has said.
nothing better than winning a war to boost peoples' morale
That's actually why the last war kicked off. The Argentine military Junta was losing support and figured that if they took the Falklands (which at that time was lightly defended) the people's morale and faith in the government would be boosted. Unfortunately, they didn't count on the stubbornness of Thatcher and the whole thing backfired. Badly.
Yerh good luck guys, you remember how well that went last time.
Falklands War v2.0 released! Changelog:

British Empire removed
Prime Minister altered, is now labour, male
QE2 removed
We'll shit 'em.
KICK THEIR FUCKIN ASS ENGLAND!!! [img_thumb]go![/img_thumb]
You'd think they'd learn from last time. We have a larger, better equipped, better trained Navy, Air Force and Army.
How can they actually fucking hope on winning this? Unless they have hidden Nuclear weapons they're just going to be slaughtered.
Goddammit Argentina, just because you're closer to the Falklands than Britain doesn't make it yours. :argh:
We will triumph once more!
How can they actually fucking hope on winning this? Unless they have hidden Nuclear weapons they're just going to be slaughtered.
And if they have nuclear weapons and use them, they'll get slaughtered by EU and US.
As much as I'd like to beleive we could retake the Falklands again, I'm not so sure we could. We do not have nearly the amount of ships we had back in 1982, sure, we have more capital ships than we sent in 1982, such as 2 new landing ships, and HMS Ocean (a helicopter landing ship), plus 2 active carriers and 1 in reserve, but no where near the amount of support vessels, (destroyers, frigates, light cruisers such as HMS Bristol) that we had in the 80's. Seeing how many ships we lost in 1982, I'm not sure the navy could withstand such losses a second time around. That said, the new Type 45 destroyers are far superior to the Type 42's we had in '82, and the Type 42's are still in service anyway. We have a force similar to the size of the one sent to the Falklands in 1982 deployed in Afghanistan. And with both our 2/3 ageing carriers and the Harriers aboard them about to be retired, there isn't alot we could do. As our new carriers have only just started to be built. If the Argentines were to start shit (I don't think they will) this is probably the best time for them to do so. Nonetheless, they'd still have to deal with our navy, in particular our subs. Plus the garrison in the Falklands now is far far far larger. I think one third of the population of the islands are soldiers add to that the RAF squadrons based there since the 80's, we could give the Argies a hell of a hard time. People don't realise just how close we were to losing the 1982 war. As for dumb boxes, well I'm the one sitting the degree in war studies so...

Although you didn't mention that warfare over long distances has improved since the last war - we have more bombers that can cruise over there as far as I know. I'm willing to bet there's a nuclear sub already chillaxing down there, or on it's way. And yeah we were close to losing the last war, fighting that far away from England completely from carriers/ships was a big risk. I think that the USA had already concluded that it was impossible to win that war without considerable preparation beforehand when we steamed in with a task force.
Why does Britain have control of islands that are so far away? What is the point?
Why does Britain have control of islands that are so far away? What is the point?
The people there want to remain British
