Welcome adventurer to the thread dedicated to the LARP experience know as the single coolest thing you will ever accomplish in your entire life! So the main idea for this is that a bunch of sweaty nerds get together in Germany to run around in leotards hitting each other with foam swords. WRONG, MOTHER FUCKER. THIS IS WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT: THESE GUYS WILL RUN FULL BALL AT YOU AND TRY TO TEAR OF YOUR GODDAMN FACE. THESE ARE THE GUYS WHO YOU FIGHT BESIDE AND KILL THE OTHER SCARY AS SHIT ARMY COMING UP AGAINST YOU. Or hey if you want go ahead and fight with the orcs! Its all 7000+ people having a good time! What it is: The main idea of this event is that a bunch of people come together in a forest in Germany and beat the shit out of eachother in character of a fantasy world. Holy shit how cool is that? Well first things first you should head over to this place: http://www.thegreatexpedition.org/ And get your tickets sorted out, you can take a bus if you live in the UK in a little group they have set up or just register and fly over to meet them at the location. After you have done all that go and check out: http://www.drachenfest.info/en/ http://www.live-adventure.de/ConQuest_english/start.php These are the actual events. They detail rules, regulations and how you should act. Its around 15 days (6 for each festival) of in character combat and campaigning. This can range from seizing a castle, raiding supply routes, stealing gold or just crushing skulls with your bros and a flagon of mead and some tasty boar. Make your character a steadfast dwarf, a pissed off troll or just a mercenary being payed to kill stuff. ITS ALL UP TO YOU. [release]WARNING: This shit is expensive, be expected to pay for tents, food, costumes and a plane ticket to get your ass over to the fatherland. But its worth it.[/release] Media:
The title made me think this was going to be some great MMO :(
Uhm, what?
LIGHTNING BOLT
You've got to respect the amount of work they probably have to do to make sure no one is crazy and brings a real sword and starts killing people because they think it's real.
I can already smell the arrow to the knee jokes from here.
By the way once you sign in as your character you cannont go out of character during the entire event! This means no talking about computers and stuff, you ARE your character for the entire tournament. This rule can only be broken when someone has been hurt or the Refs (Guys in red hats) say you need to stop. If anyone wants me to post the camp information just ask. Details clans such as orcs and dwarfs.
This looks very cool. I would very much like to be there even as a spectator, as it looks to be quite an immersive experience.
A charge between the Red Team and orcs at around 3:34: Pretty intense. Its extremely imersive, you can see jailing and executions among some public events at each camp.
Those costumes are pretty awesome, especially since they don't fall apart with a lot of use.
"hey i just killed you lay DOWN" "no i just used my potions"
"hey i just killed you lay DOWN" "no i just used my potions"
The combat is monitored by refs. If you get killed you go down. The only way you can be saved is with real interaction with a potion that takes 5 minutes to give you some relief, the only way you can be saved from an extremely bad wound is to be taken back to camp and "Operated on" this involves fake blood packs and a monitoring of a ref to determine if you survived. If you die, you go to a place where you can be respawned using certain methods but don't expect to be alive right after you die.

But it only gets boring if you become seriously injured and you have to flee, they strive for realism in the actual combat. But the doctors can sway from a potions master at redcamp to a witchdoctor at orc camp so they try and make it interesting.
Why can't things like this exist in America? I'd do this in a heartbeat if it weren't for the fact that a majority of American LARPs amount to what's portrayed in the "LIGHTNING BOLT!" viral video. Oh, and foam sticks is a turn-off too... and the lack of immersion and actual role-playing...
Places you can go apart from the field of battle: [release]ARRIVAL:[/release] For 10 years the world of Mithraspera gets visited by players, and the introduction to our world is getting more and more complex, especially for single players or groups that are coming from non-german language countries. Complemental to our big Newcomer-Plot-Node in the Merchants City - known as the big Library of the Ouai that started in 2011, we will open a new Camp for all who are new to Mythodea. The focus here is to have a successful start into the background and plots that revolve around the world of Mithraspera. For example: Why do we refer to this world sometimes as Mythodea and the next time as Mithraspera? How can i overcome the illnesses spread by the Pestilence? And why does everyone fear the Viinshar? [release]EARTH:[/release] EVER GET A HARD ON FOR ROLLING IN MUD?: This camp has always been one of the variegated camps of Mythodea. As manifold as life, you will find all kinds of cultures in the lines of terra, every mindset, and every lifestyle. Human rats, mighty centaurs, stable dwarfs, free celts or adventurous soldiers of fortune - everyone can find his home here. Earth is power, stamina, consistency, and straightforwardness. But often, Earth is also inert and slow. Even if its rocks are grinded to sand and blown away by the wind, it will re-rise and form a new mountain to watch over the world! A watch, which now is more important than ever, as the arch enemy of life, the reversal of existence and the standstill of the great cycle awakened: The Undead Flesh. Fight: 4 Plot: 5 Ambiance: 3 [release]FIRE:[/release] LIKE TO BURN STUFF?: The warriors of Ignis confirmed this year on the very first evening their solidarity - and showed subsequently that they work together on a joint target. It was the Firecamp that conjured up the most talismans, something that will be very important in the coming year. And they achieved the Cloak of Amon Garron which will enable them to spar with the Element of Pestilence again in 2012. Despite the fact that neither the old nor the new Nyame of the East was able to convince the Lona Akata Tribe to affiliate with the East, still both sides are willing to go on with further negotiations. And at last, the Archon and the Nyame of the North were able to secure the Edalphi Princess S'ley and grant her shelter and asylum after she returned from the Enemies Sides. Fight: 4 Plot: 5 Ambiance: 3 [release]WATER: [/release] WANT TO HAVE A POOL PARTY?: This camp is especially famous for its competent healers and alchemists - only the alchemist guild in town is able to match their skills. Nevertheless, in this camp there are also many warriors, priests, magicians and adventurers who have committed their lives and their blades to this element. Water is movement, life, healing and headedness. Water is also cold and indecisive, but once its fury is raised, its waves take in everything that is not fast enough to flee. As its arch-enemy is the pestilence, the inhabitants of the water camp have committed themselves to the fight against the diseases and sicknesses of Mythodea. A battle that might seem shoreless at times, but might be able to give freedom to all beings of Mythodea. Fight: 4 Plot: 5 Ambiance: 3 [release]AIR: [/release] I BET YOU LIKE BLOWING THINGS: Typically, archers, spear fighters and all those bound to weather and wind attach to this elemental camp, but in the last years also knights, scholars and warriors who want to serve Aeris have gathered in the lines of this Element. They all enrich the camp on their very own ways. Air is movement, ease, joy, boldness and cheerfulness. But air is also volatile and easy to injure. But it will never give way completely, and always return. Its arch enemy is the void and its servants, the people of the Viinshar. It is the lifework of Aeris followers to fight the Viinshar and uncover their intrigues Fight: 4 Plot: 5 Ambiance: 3 [release]MAGIC:[/release] LIGHTNING BOLTS! The Magic camp is the place where not only scholars and magical experts gather to follow their element, but also many warriors, mercenaries and adventurers. A motley crew, you could say but nevertheless, it is obvious that in this camp the magicians are the top voice to be heard. Fight: 4 Plot: 5 Ambiance: 3 [release]FAMILY CAMP:[/release] WANT TO ABANDON YOUR YOUNGER SIBLINGS OR PRODUCTS OF A DIVORCE: Family Camp / KidsTown Shortly after the release of our "KidsTown" Concept yielded very positive results relating family-friendlyness in the last three years, we deceided to take it a whole step further and want to present a possibility for larping families with kids to have a whole new expirience on our event. [release]NEUTRALS: [/release] I CANT DECIDE!??: Following the events in the Neutral Camp in 2011, there is a chance that there will be several camps now in the coming years. They will be consolidated from an organisatorial and logistic viewpoint, but if there is a high enough interest by the players for different themed camps, the Neutral Camp will be parted in-game in separate camps, each one having different Gates, NPCs and Plots. Fight: 3 Plot: 3 Ambiance: 3 [release]SEAFARERS:[/release] WANT TO BE A PIRATE?: For a few years now, mariners, pirates and other "aquarians" who sail the waters of Mythodea have gathered in this camp. In the camp of seafarers, captains and ordinary seamen drink in taverns, soak hot tubs and meet in other dark places. The camp possesses the atmosphere of shady docklands and harbours the “Bruderschaft der Küste” (Brotherhood of the Coast), the "Captain’s Stübchen" (Captain’s Corner) and the “Heiße Maid” (Hot Maiden) among other established groups. Wild as the sea, wayward as the storm, nobody knows what the captains of the Brotherhood of the Coast are up to... Fight: 1 Plot: 3 Ambiance: 5 [release]TOWN: [/release] WANT TO BUY SOME MEAD? First and foremost, the city is a place where each participant of this event can find some nice distraction, fun and some good sales. But those living there have so much more to offer. Craftsman, Bankers, Musicians, Impostors, Mercenaries, Carneys, Squallers, Merchants, Innkeepers, Moneychangers, Thieves and many more meet up there each year to fill this place with life. Fight: 1 Plot: 2 Ambiance: 5 [release]MERCS: [/release] WANT TO MAKE SOME DOSH? "My sword for your copper, my service for your silver, my life for your gold!." It is said that this is the slogan of the Mercenary Camp. It can happen that parts of the camp serve left and right of the battlefield, different groups being hired by the fractions waging war against each other. Buth then, mercenaries pay only little attention to politics or who is right and who is not. All they are interested in is: Who gives the gold. Fight: 4 Plot: 2 Ambiance: 3 [release]NORDS:[/release] WANT TO FUS RO DAH?: In the next summer, the clans will reunion to a new Horde and fight under a new Herikungr, on a way that was laid out before them by their gods, the Asen and Wanen. Now, it’s up to them to prove themselves worthy and explore the mysteries that this land will hold for them. And only time will tell if this Horde will be the Spearhead of the Elements... [release]ORCS: [/release] WANT TO KILL SOME HOBBITS?: Much knowledge got lost in the sea of time, like what happened to the descendants of the Rahak Duhn during the Weltenbrand. Not much is all but certain, like that most of them got enslaved under the whip of the Black Ice and that they had and still have to serve in a unholy pact with them. Sure enough is only that some of them fled from this thralldom with the help of the Uruks, which arrived too in these lands after Mythodea was discovered for the settlers [release]DWARFS: [/release] WANT TO MINE SOME STUFF?: "We are the dwarfs, made from the bones of earth, steady as the stones. We honor the ancestors and the wisdom of many centuries accompanies us. Created by the great forger, we tribute him with our artisanry. We are Dwarfs, one council, one voice, one shield. Nothing makes us waver, nothing shall part us, we are one tribe and never alone.
this looks EXPENSIVE AS FUCK
Oh god that looks like fun.
does it last overnight? imagine sneaking to the other teams camp and fucking shit up :v:
hahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha the first video, the fight scene at around 5:00 It all looks very awkward
One of those big festivals is only like 10km away from here. Shame I only got real swords n' stuff lying around in my cellar, no foamy stuff.
People can say what they want about how nerdy this is. I want in! Sadly I do not have the time or money (most likely) for this. Still seems like a lot of fun.
Imagine bringing a Frostmourne Replica there and Lich King's armor. I imagine the amount of weird looks at your side.
It's so fucking nerdy but GOD DAMMIT I WISH I COULD DO IT.
does it last overnight? imagine sneaking to the other teams camp and fucking shit up :v:
Yeah you stay around 14 days of in-character. Sleeping, talking and drinking like whoever your playing as. You can steal SOME stuff. Such as raiding and gold that you can earn in jobs or buy with real money. This gold can be used to buy in game weapons and armor for instance: hypothetically you earn 500 gold by putting up a barricade at a local dwarf camp. So you go into town and buy a sword for 300 gold but leave your coins out and a thief can steal them. But if you catch him you can have a duel or do what you see fit. On the site it details such things as going into tents without permission but its pretty flexible. I once saw a video where an orc party went over the walls because a postman fell asleep so they just killed him and stole his gold.

My brother has gone to it and from what he's told me it's pretty much the same thing as this.
Oh my god, this is seriously VERY awesome. I'd love to have the cash and time to go to Germany and be a fucking orc with my buddies. Damn.
I would troll but this looks awesome.
