The thick, concrete exterior wall was built using insulated concrete forms (ICF) that can withstand winds up to 200 mph, Brumblay said. In many of the older buildings, the concrete-block walls can withstand winds of only up to 70 mph. But newer buildings, such as Pisgah, are built from ICF, which consists of 3 inches of insulation and 6 to 10 inches of solid concrete with reinforced steel. The outside has a brick veneer and the inside drywall.
Dayum Wonder how much extra it cost. Because the alternative is to just build basements and I was wondering if the total cost of the materials offset the reconstruction costs
Jeez, that sounds expensive. My school couldn't even afford to build 3 more classrooms. They just bought 3 construction trailers (these things), put desks in them, and stuck them in the parking lot.
i dont even know what my school district spends their money on definitely everything but important things like paying teachers properly and giving us a not shitty education
I feel like the chances of getting hit by a tornado is too low for to go this far though.
Seems kind of a waste considering I've never even heard of a major tornado hitting tennessee anyways. You know, considering most, if not all of the state is in the middle of the smoky mountains. Die, or not die?
