Sony has confirmed that PS4 Neo is in development, an upgraded version of the existing PS4 console. In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Sony Interactive Entertainment president Andrew House told the outlet that the PS4 Neo will be “more expensive than the current $350 version”. "The new console is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4,” House said. “We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle.” However, the new console will not be revealed at E3 2016, like many people had expected. Sony is not ready to announce a potential release date or price for the console either. “All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4.” According to House, the new console will target hardcore gamers with a keen interest in 4K content, as they will require a 4K television to get the most out of the system.
Ah yes, ps4k. The same rumor that spawned from SHITgaf from a guy in retail who said he had a private showing of PSVR at PSX. The same rumor that said a new ps4 would have 2x GPUs and would upscale all games to 4k with potato quality to match with space magic that prevents the console from frying itself. We have dismissed such claims. On a serious note: I know people who are QAs and they couldn't stop laughing at this rumor over teamspeak. One of them said the people who took this rumor under the mircoscope like csi Miami are idiots.
This sucks, hopefully the release of the console won't be drawn out into 2017 and it actually releases during the holiday season.
“more expensive than the current $350 version”. "The new console is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4,”
"Hey, you bought this console so buy something additional to it that costs more than what you originally paid." I'm not sure if I get this correctly, maybe he just worded it poorly.
"Hey, you bought this console so buy something additional to it that costs more than what you originally paid."
"Hey, you bought this console so buy something additional to it that costs more than what you originally paid." I'm not sure if I get this correctly, maybe he just worded it poorly.
It's not an add on like the 32x, it's another PS4 console.
God it's a good thing I never felt like I needed to purchase a console at any point, though I have wanted to pick one up due to some games that I can't get on PC but this shit's ridiculous, this generation has barely even begun and both of them are already in need of upgrades. Sure it's optional, but it's pretty much stating "This hardware is already outdated, buy this instead" [editline]edit[/editline] I do hope that this pretty much makes the price for the original consoles drop significantly, because I at least want to get a PS4 for things like Ratchet & Clank and Bloodborne, I aint willing to pay £200+ quid tho.

It's not intended to replace it but it's there if people want the ability to use 4k content.

This isn't just a slimmer PS4. [sp]Well it might be, who knows, they might redesign it, but you get the point[/sp] :v:
It's announced now? Aw man, I'm no longer in the secret society cool kids club. :v:

The PS4 will still be sold and be a cheaper alternative to the PS4K. The same way PS3 Slim and PS3 were still sold together. That is what he meant by Sit alongside/complement the PS4.

Don't trust sony's lies.)
I just found the wording a bit weird. But that was because I saw the statement like it was written for a consumer point of view. The Neo will of course sit alongside the standard PS4 in store shelves. Not at home.

I doubt this will go well at all, Biggest selling point of consoles is the less frequent need to upgrade. Sure you can say that all PS4 games will work on both, But the original PS4 will get the short end of the stick on optimization and support.
It's announced now? Aw man, I'm no longer in the secret society cool kids club. :v:
Your secret society hasn't been a secret ever since the PSone then :v: They always do this with their consoles so you can pretty much expect it from day 1.
This has been expected. At least people can stop making rumours about the existence of the PS4 Neo.
This sucks man, this means we're either going to get really good looking games that become horribly un-optimized for the standard PS4 or games that don't utilize the new console's features at all.
I will never upgrade. I'm going to hang on to P.T. forever.
I will never upgrade. I'm going to hang on to P.T. forever.
this is just a conspiracy to get PT off of people's hard drives, stay woke

Then Nintendo dropped the Game Boy like a stone to focus on DS.
Nintendo NX is the same thing (co-exist with wii u) though its supposed to support the 3DS too.
In Nintendo's case they're just saying that to cover their butts in case the NX flops though. If it does well it's most likely going to succeed the Wii U
Your secret society hasn't been a secret ever since the PSone then :v: They always do this with their consoles so you can pretty much expect it from day 1.
True, but I meant more along the lines of actual confirmation :v: It's pretty, anyway!
The DS was supposed to "co-exist" with the Game Boy line until it made loads of money. Then Nintendo dropped the Game Boy like a stone to focus on DS.
They've sold over four million PS4s, they'd be stupid to drop it. From what I understand games are gonna support both systems with some looking slightly better on the new system.
In other news, The Last Guardian is delayed again and will be a maybe not cancelled Neo release title :v:
In other news, The Last Guardian is delayed again and will be a maybe not cancelled Neo release title :v:
Nothing remotely interesting was lost
With game installations, firmware updates, hard disk space management, etc, consoles are getting more and more complicated. And now not only will PS4 games be split into regular games and VR games that require a headset, consoles and game versions will be split between PS4 and PS4 Neo too. The simplicity of console gaming is going down the drain.
Welp, at least my PS4 is collector's item :v:
Welp, good thing I didn't buy into the console hype.
