Charles Bolden, a retired United States Marines Corps major-general and former astronaut, said in an interview with al-Jazeera that Nasa was not only a space exploration agency but also an "Earth improvement agency".
Mr Bolden said: "When I became the Nasa administrator, he [Mr Obama] charged me with three things.

Hillary Clinton reaches out to Muslims in Indonesia
"One, he wanted me to help reinspire children to want to get into science and math; he wanted me to expand our international relationships; and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering."
He added: "It is a matter of trying to reach out and get the best of all worlds, if you will, and there is much to be gained by drawing in the contributions that are possible from the Muslim [nations]."
Byron York, a conservative columnist for the Washington Examiner, characterised Mr Obama's space policy shift as moving "from moon landings to promoting self-esteem"
Earlier this year, Mr Obama announced the scrapping of the moon programme in favour of an aspiration to visit Mars, cancelling the Constellation programme for manned space flight, the successor to the Space Shuttle.
It means Nasa would not be able to travel beyond the Earth's lower orbit without international assistance and need the help of allies to make it to Mars.
The proposal angered Neil Armstrong and Eugene Cernan, the first and last men to walk on the moon.
Along with Jim Lovell, the Apollo 13 commander, they issued a statement denouncing the decision "devastating" and a plan that "destines our nation to become one of second- or even third-rate stature."

Well fair do's Muslim nations laid the foundation for a lot of shit we do, our numbers are called Arabic numerals for a reason, and they done a lot of engineering work and laid the foundations for that.
But the west has to find a way to remove the theocracies of the world.
Like 9/11?
Shut up and stop being hurtful towards muslims,
Honestly.

Arabic numerals were invented by India, go figure.
We should also give special credit to greeks as they came up with most of the early mathematics, Italians for the engineering of ancient Rome, China for inventing gunpowder and explosives, Germany for the science done in the early 20th century, France for inventing the metric system, England for the huge engineering feats done through history and pretty much everyone who at one point in history was powerful. Most of the stuff done by Muslims happened before Islam eg. Babylon, ancient Egypt, and most of the mathematical work.
When you look at at. American gonna just kind of absorbs other countries benefits. Well, here and there.

Awesome.
The title made me think something very, very different...
How is it muslim science? that's like calling all western science christian science.
How is it muslim science? that's like calling all western science christian science.
Because it was muslims who discovered/furthered it, back then for the muslims religion and science were kinda interlinked and science was simply humans working out how god operated.

There's also verses in the quran that refers to the big bang and iron (i think) and stuff.

Didn't that happen more than a thousand years ago?

Most of the work done in the middle ages was done with the goal of working out the mind of god. Astronomy was mostly based around figuring out how god set up the Universe. The research may have been sponsored by religious groups but it can no more be attributed to religion than any discovery. If you were to say it was simply the people doing the research and we should appeal to that sense then fine, but religion has nothing to do with it.
There's also verses in the quran that refers to the big bang and iron (i think) and stuff.
The Qur'an is not a science book. If it has anything in there that can be interpreted to be relevant to a discovery made, it is purely coincidence. Unless you want to believe these holy texts are prophetic (see into the future kind), it is comepletely irrelevant.
Yeah that's what I'm saying, that these people made a fair few discoveries and observed the cosmos at the time, and just happened to be muslims, and that some of the motivation was to discover gods workings.
"Obama Wants to Make Muslims Feel Good"... Why does this sound suspicious...
[editline]04:13PM[/editline]
Emphasis on Feel Good.
Funny, because a lot of all the contributions to maths and science by muslim nations came before islam was created. These creations should be accredited to arabs, not muslims as a whole. When Europe was in the dark ages, Arabia was contributing to the scientific progress. Islam fucked it all up.
Cool. This is a good idea.

Well the Dark ages started about 550AD (probably not exact, I'm not a history major) and Muhammad founded Islam around 630AD so they must of done a lot in those 80 years.
How is it muslim science? that's like calling all western science christian science.
The Benedictines, to name one, contributed greatly to the middle ages.

I wish you could say the same about Muslim extremists.
