Sony finally allows ps4 mods for Fallout 4 and Skyrim, but in one condition
Bethesda and Sony have kissed and made up. Who benefits from that corporate make-out session? You, because mod support is en route for Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition, according to a post on Bethesda.net. Skyrim mods will show up first, but there isn't a timetable for when that will actually happen.
"We are excited to finally get modding to our PlayStation fans who have supported us for so long," the post reads. "Modding has been an important part of our games for over 10 years, and we hope to do even more in the coming year for all our players, regardless of platform."
It's a shame that custom models and sounds are still not allowed, but it's better than having no mods.
Yeah I don't get the logic with that, you're basically cutting out a minimum 60-80% of mods.

Sony may want a lot of things but one thing they certainly do not want is for people to transform their Ps4s into Pornboxes.

Bethesda's mod service is more resticted than Nexus IIRC. The most I've seen are the waifu body mods
Maybe they are just testing waters to see how the consoles handle the stress? Weren't there some issues with some FO mods bricking people's Xbones?

That was more connected with Sony's proprietary texture and sound formats, I think.
Man, no custom sounds or textures is going to make this very limited. What can you even do with that besides cheat menus to spawn items?

Make Dragon Bones not weigh like 25% of your carrying capacity, cheap retextures, etc.
You could technically still make a lute-playing bear and a hookshot mod, but it just wouldn't be the same.

That was a hoax I believe

I don't think that's a fair assessment. Even early on (shortly after Skyrim's release) before people had had the time to make these massive code-heavy game-overhauls mods were still able to significantly enhance the gameplay experience in terms of depth, features and length.
My first 100 or so hours in Skyrim were spent with no texture packs or custom models, but rather GUI changes, combat rebalancing, new crafting, follower fixes, new locations (built with existing assets), inventory improvements and such, which alone easily makes the game 10x better than vanilla.
What we WON'T see with this limitation in place is a modding community up to speed with the PC platform, which isn't even a realistic scenario in the first place given the limitations of the consoles themselves. It would've been very interesting to see a console game with modding completely unleashed, though.
the only issue i really have is that because there's no script extender support on consoles, you wont even get the real dank gameplay rebalances and all that
This means all NPCs added by mods will suffer from the grey face bug, since NPC face color is stored in texture files generated by the Creation Kit.
This is essentially like still not having mods
I think they are just trying to stop "sexy" mods. e.g. Loverslab.com
Please stop the goddamn :clickbait: titles, just put the answer in the title

This used to be bannable if my memory serves right.

That was a hoax caused by pissy modders who were upset that they weren't special for having mods exclusively. The worst a mod can do is make the game run like shit, crash, or corrupt your save. Not great things, but they can't brick your console.
Why do people even like mods? I've never liked mods and I'm a stick in the mud.

Guess someone hasn't used mods.

Whenever I mod New Vegas, I stick to something more lore-friendly.

I liked modding the shit out of games when I was younger, but now I don't really care enough to go through the trouble unless there's steam workshop support where I can easily access them.

Some of them can be pretty neat. Things like the restoration projects for every Bethsoft game are usually quite cool. Introducing cut content and fixing up errors Bethsoft themselves can't be bothered to. The community patches for Oblivion were quite nice for example, and fixed a lot of mesh and lighting errors that were never going to be fixed otherwise.
But I haven't the fucking foggiest why people need to install things like "xXx Hitomi J-CUP body replacer" or that fucking horse vagina mod in Skyrim.
I've always tried to stick to graphical enhancement and quality-of-life features. Nothing that actually breaks the base game balance or whatever.
Actually what am I talking about: one of the best things I ever did to skyrim was install a mod that allowed for mouse controlled gui for managing items in chests and stuff. BUT, that was because the PC version didn't come with that, but the inventory system worked "fine enough" on console. SO, if we are talking about modding console games, I think we can expect that most mods would be for cosmetic changes rather than practical changes, since these games are imo built with consoles in mind more that pc.

Deception IV is pretty fuckin lewd
This is such a weird turn around from what Sony allowed on the PS3 with Unreal Tournament 3.

Mods are the best things ever invented in video games, Fallout without mods is a Fallout not taken advantage of, modding Bethesda games is awesome
Might as well have just continued not allowing mods then if this is the crap you're going to stick them with.

Because they want to? Just like how you want to stick to graphical enhancements and quality of life mods, there doesn't need to be a reason for anyone to download any mod other than "Because they want to".
Wow, really sucks for the PS4 version. If I wasn't so optimistic, I'd say that this pretty much invalidates the effort to get mods on consoles. But I can still see merit in this and can only hope it brings more console users up to speed with what modding is all about.
One of my biggest concerns with console modding is that there seems to be this consensus among the few more ignorant console users that modding is cheating, and god items and cheat mods don't really help. Unfortunately, it seems these types of mods are going to thrive on the PS4 version of the game by virtue of simply not allowing anything more complicated.
