Angela Merkel will reportedly ignore Donald Trump’s attempts to extricate £300bn from Germany for what he deems to be owed contributions to Nato.
The US President is said to have had an 'invoice' printed out outlining the sum estimated by his aides as covering Germany's unpaid contributions for defence.
Said to be presented during private talks in Washington, the move has been met with criticism from German and Nato officials.
While the figure presented to the Germans was not revealed by either side, Nato countries pledged in 2014 to spend two per cent of their GDP on defence, something only a handful of nations – including the UK, Greece, Poland and Estonia – currently do.
But the bill has been backdated even further to 2002, the year Mrs Merkel’s predecessor, Gerhard Schröder, pledged to spend more on defence.
Mr Trump reportedly instructed aides to calculate how much German spending fell below two per cent over the past 12 years, then added interest.
Estimates suggest the total came to £300bn, with official figures citing the shortfall to be around £250bn, and with £50bn in interest added on.

What a fucking moron. Nothing like alienating our closest allies.
This is a new level of stupid.
He is a giant fucking manchild in charge of an entire nation.
Unbelievable.
That is fucking insulting
And somewhere, in the Kremlin, Putin and Medved are shitting themselves laughing.
"This moron fucking what?!"
"v:v:v"
What the fuck sort of circus trick is this? Surely this should be enough means to impeach the idiot already?
Please tell me this isn't true and this is secretly an Onion article.

The Kremlin is shitting it's pants right now on how oblique this is.
JESUS CHRIST we helped THIS Guy!?
Ok seriously though is there another source than the independent? All that pops up is the independent reporting this.

You kidding? They helped him because they knew that he was going to destabilize the USA and NATO.

Except it has backfired and we are on to them.
You're kidding me.
Fucking imbecile.
Well with only 1 source reporting it and every other site using independent as their source, i find this hard to believe. I mean hey, if germany owes nato money, pay up. Wanna prove you don't owe it, bring out the proof.
Like I said, I'm very sure he'll be impeached and convicted of Treason. If it's true that Michael Flynn has been in FBI protective custody for the last week, it may well be that they flipped him and he made a deal to testify. Watching this gigantic imbecile be thrown in prison for life will be cathartic.

Honestly those poor ONN writers will be out of a job pretty soon.

It's like Matt Stone and Trey Parker said: "Satire has become reality."

There are things called diplomacy, allies, economic dependency, manners, etc which the retard in charge doesn't seem to understand when he continuously insults our closest allies.
I actually like this move. It's a big childish fuck you to Germany. They committed to spending 2%, and they should. We aren't here to pay for Europe's defense.
But this is definitely NOT the way to handle it.
I actually like this move. It's a big childish fuck you to Germany.
I'm glad you advocate bringing childish ways of thinking into global politics. Truly it's what humanity needs right now.
I actually like this move. It's a big childish fuck you to Germany. They committed to spending 2%, and they should. We aren't here to pay for Europe's defense.
Because being a manchild is such a brilliant qualification as a global leader. Hell no. :goodjob:
Why are only some countries spending that %2? including Greece who ave no money there's no fucking excuse for France and Germany to ignore it seeing as their shit in the past is why we have this pact in the first place.
I actually like this move. It's a big childish fuck you to Germany. They committed to spending 2%, and they should. We aren't here to pay for Europe's defense.
They have until 2024 to reach the 2% goal and they've been on track to reach it for a while now. Stop spreading misinformation based on ignorance.

An elder acting like a child telling mature adults to go fuck themselves is a great way to convince them to pay him an insane amount of money?
You're not very bright.
The US has several dozen military bases in Germany. As far as I have been able to tell, we do not pay any rent for that land - in fact, they seem to help us with upkeep and maintenance costs.
If that is true, I think Merkel's best response would be to send a check for a laughably tiny amount, say $2.27, attaching a similar invoice for seventy year's rent, calculated to almost exactly balance out Trump's bullshit invoice.
Okay, maybe not the best response, but that's totally what I would do in her position.
They're not going to pay it back. This is just voicing a large annoyance.
To voice an annoyance you make a public statement along with some tangible evidence that one end of a bargain wasn't held up. Slipping made up notes under the table is classroom tier bullshit and unacceptable from a powerful global leader.
They're not going to pay it back. This is just voicing a large annoyance.
So it's just a move that destabilizes relations and doesn't solve the issue. Again, not very bright.
The invoice was fake, not the official estimates based on their shortcomings.
[editline]26th March 2017[/editline]
Doesn't really do much to destabilize relations because Germany needs us.
What happens when Germany decides it had enough of Trump's shit and washes their hands of him, stability or no stability?
This is all part of some 7d chess right?
Doesn't really do much to destabilize relations because Germany needs us.
They need you so much they don't pay their supposed dues you believe they own the US, that's quite the contradiction
They're way too scared of the likes of Russia to ever separate themselves from the US.
If they were so scared, wouldn't they up their NATO contributions, again contradicting
