It's a graphical issue that usually happens when your client is trying to render more parts of the map(also when a wall is blown away by some sort of explosion. has to do with rendering again). Probably will get fixed in the next update.

The shotgun is unlocked for all kits once you unlock it. It was one of his first times playing assault.
I remember sniping with slugs in BC2. fucking hilarious seeping people flip when you kill them from miles away

He could have unlocked the shotgun and its attachments with other classes.
