Source: http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/jan/13/womb-transplants-success-swedish-project
Nine women in Sweden have successfully received transplanted wombs donated by relatives and will soon try to become pregnant, has revealed. The women, mostly in their 30s, were born without a uterus or had it removed because of cervical cancer. They are part of the first major experiment to test whether it is possible to transplant wombs into women so they can give birth to their own children.
It's still very experimental, but it's a heartening beginning. For Science!
Possible advanced sex change?
not likely as of yet - they still haven't managed to connect the fallopian tubes to the uterus, and they aren't sure if the procedure will result in healthy children. It's a start, nothing more.
Possible advanced sex change?
People bashing transgenders will only have to get stupider to keep up their arguments. I guess the laws of physics are going to shatter like candy glass and vacuum decay is going to instantly be complete very soon.
watch religious fundamentalists (pls dont make this start an argument over religious people, I'm talking about the DUMB religious people.) go balls to the wall crazy over this. But it's Sweden. Wouldn't be surprised if this shit would be grounds for the death penalty here in the US. Anyways, a great step towards many, many fields. I forsee advanced sex changes, uterus implants (obviously) and other, more lifesaving, uses.
Medical science progresses, hooray!
That's, uh... unlikely.
Exaggeration and a bit of sarcasm, but yeah, you're right. I guess I'm just still shocked from all the fuss they made over stem cells years ago. (some still are/do.)
Possible advanced sex change?
There's still things you cannot possibly change, like bone structure for an example. I don't mean to be offensive toward the Trans people, they are who they want to be called, but I doubt they'll ever be really biologically what they really want to be.

But right now, yeah, no.
I'm really happy to see something like this happening, it may be different, but someone very close to me has PCOS and in the event that she couldn't get pregnant it would be amazing to be able to replace her malfunctioning overies with fully working ones.
I did not actually think this could be used for sex change operations until the first reply. This could help women who want to have children, but are infertile.

Everyone who undergoes this surgery is hysterical.
Possible advanced sex change?
That'd be trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. Men don't have the bone structure or excretory systems for us to scale it there yet.
Possible advanced sex change?
wouldn't be possible, because the body will reject it due to genes

Someone who was on suppressants until their late teens then had HRT might have a chance.

Funnily enough the first ever attempted sex change operation involved an attempt at Uterus transplant. It was rejected (from the body) of course and the patient died. It's amazing how far science has come int he last century.
Maybe one day with this technology I can actually have my own kid. Sigh.
That's, uh... unlikely.
Considering that there's a christian pamphlet that claimed that cloning was immoral and should be prevented. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a silly moral dilemma like that in the future.
That'd be trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. Men don't have the bone structure or excretory systems for us to scale it there yet.
except if you get early HRT your bones shape differently unless you had a massive early growth spurt.
wouldn't be possible, because the body will reject it due to genes
Hey, did you go to Hollywood Upstairs Medical College too?
Everyone who undergoes this surgery is hysterical.
hehehe I got the joke

Also, the brain starts to die after losing oxygen for as little as two minutes, and will be completely dead in 5. That's not a very large time gap left for cobbling together an old brain into a new body, even assuming that it's completely intact.
Possible advanced sex change?
Unless you can also transplant functional ovaries that sounds a bit unnecessary.
Unless you can also transplant functional ovaries that sounds a bit unnecessary.
Stem cells can be coaxed into eggs no matter the sex, a woman who was originally a man could have this done and it fertilized and the resulting embryo put into the transplanted uterus.
