The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s chief scientist nominee, Sam Clovis withdrew his name from consideration Wednesday amid revelations that he was among top officials on the Trump campaign who was aware of efforts by foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos to broker a relationship between the campaign and Russian officials.
Court documents unsealed Monday revealed that Papadopoulos pleaded guilty in early October to making false statement to FBI investigators about his contacts with foreigners claiming to have high-level Russian connections. In August 2016, Clovis encouraged Papadopoulos to organize an “off the record” meeting with Russian officials, according to court documents. “I would encourage you” and another foreign policy adviser to the campaign to “make the trip, if it is feasible,” Clovis wrote. The meeting did not ultimately take place.
In a letter to the president Wednesday, Clovis explained that he did not think he could get a fair consideration from the Senate, which was slated to hold a hearing on his appointment on Nov. 9.
“The political climate inside Washington has made it impossible for me to receive balanced and fair consideration for this position,” wrote Clovis, who currently serves as USDA’s senior White House adviser. “The relentless assaults on you and your team seem to be a blood sport that only increases with intensity each day.”
Also, lol:
Clovis’s attorney, Victoria Toensing, told The Washington Post on Monday that her client “always vigorously opposed any Russian trip for Donald Trump and/or the campaign.” She described his responses to Papadopoulos as a courtesy by “a polite gentleman from Iowa.”
As a note: Sam Clovis had not actually been confirmed to his post in the USDA yet, but was still actively performing the duties. So, technically, he only withdrew his name from consideration and stopped performing the duties, as the post was never officially his to "resign." Practically, since he was performing the duties, he resigned. A bit a paraphrasing in the title, but only for the purposes of making it fit properly. I can easily change it if anybody finds it confusing or misleading.
As an additional note, for those who haven't been following this very closely, Sam Clovis is an important figure because he is the one who put together Trump's National Security Team during the campaign, and gave the green light to Papadopoulis to establish meetings with the Russian government. Don't worry, though, he was just being polite.
The administration is crumbling.
Considering he failed to meet the legal requirements for his post and was to be confirmed anyway, rofl eat shit you crony stooge.
I'm still waiting to see Felix Sater's name reappear. He promised his name would be important by now; I think he expected Mueller to strike in a different direction first.
...or Mueller's already moved but it's still under seal like the Papadopoulis indictment and plea procurement. [sp]oh please oh please[/sp]
Every time another person resigns, it's like Christmas morning.

He was teasing something would come around the time that the Hurricanes hit, so understandably, people got distracted at that point - but it is disappointing it has not yet reemerged.

If there's anything Bob Mueller proved to me this week, it's that we're looking at a fairly large and tangled web. I expect it's only a matter of time.

Was this the guy who went absolutely batshit crazy on twitter after the announcement last Friday that Mueller had submitted his first charges?

No, he is who encouraged Papadopoulis to arrange a meeting with Russia for the campaign.

That was Roger Stone, GOP political strategist and lobbyist.
How fucked is Trump looking anyways
I've only actually gotten into politics when Obama was in the big boy chair
If its merely that he can't get anyone to stay in their position for any period of time that matters, how could he possibly get anything done
