I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand it's sad because his wife/mother doesn't get to see him and this isn't a "proper" thing for a man of his age to be doing. On the other it makes him happy, everyone should be happy, if marbles are his thing and they make him happy, why the hell not?

Maybe marbles are his hobby.

I don't see why everyone says it's sad. The man is enjoying his life, he's lived well and found tons of entertainment in marbles. If you ask him, I'm sure he'll say he spent his life well.

That's depressing in some form
