Apple [AAPL] reclaimed the quarterly US smartphone championship cup from Samsung once again in Q4, according to Strategy Analytics -- but year-on-year the industry shrank slightly as economic uncertainty continues to impact consumer and enterprise markets.

Apple sets new US records The news is a big claim for Apple -- not only did it become the biggest smartphone vendor in the US, it also became the biggest mobile phone vendor in the US for the very first time, says Strategy Anlaytics analyst, Neil Mawston: “Apple iPhone overtook Samsung to become, for the first time, the number one mobile phone vendor in the influential United States market in the fourth quarter of 2012.”
http://blogs.computerworld.com/smartphones/21720/apple-beats-samsung-becomes-biggest-us-mobile-phone-vendor-q4 This makes sense, considering all those articles about "Android sales most of smartphone sales" are always world wide statistics, which are very different considering they include <$50 smartphones in India
samsung still has more market share in 2012 by 10 percent
Title extremely misleading, they beat Samsung in one quarter by a tiny margin, whereas in all other quarters Samsung completely outsold them :v:

in United States in Q4 2012 One quarter of one year, in one country. Pretty straightforward. Like in the US it's still normally led by Samsung which primarily makes Android phones.

I said misleading, not incorrect - it's true they sold more, but the difference is so marginal it's not that big of a deal. The title makes it sound like they're massively overtaking them, not that they slightly outsold them in one quarter.
