• Buying Airsoft Apparel

So I'm new to airsoft... I'm going to buy a full suit to wear for games. It'll sure beat jeans and a T-shirt. Could I get some feedback if these are good items to purchase? Crossdraw and a guille suit oh boy.
Should have used the questions thread. I feel partially responsible as I was going to make a Market thread today. Well anyway. Basically everything except the Balaclava are bad ideas. Crossdraws are terrible vests, for less money you can buy a better rig. Ghillie suits are pointless, hot, uncomfortable and a pain in the ass in general. The goggles you posted don't explicitly state they're ANSI rated so if I were you I'd find a pair that are.

I really like being stealthy and all that good stuff. I don't think I'd be too worried about getting hot up here in Washington, heh. Out of curiosity, what is wrong with crossdraw vests? I can't really find a different one that would be useful to me, plus I thought it would eliminate the need for my extra holster I normally use on my leg. /I updated it with a different vest.
Did you just get that rifle or have you already played with it? We usually suggest to new players to avoid getting a sniper rifle like that. Because in order to actually be any good with one it requires a lot of time, effort and money to upgrade it and unlock it's potential. The crossdraw, as I said is an expensive waste of money. There are Condor Chestrigs that cost $20 that do the job better minus a holster. Kids wearing ghillie suits, crossdraws with sniper rifles make us cringe at the field. Now, don't take it the wrong way. I don't mean to degrade you, I absolutely do not. I'm just informing you. If you really enjoy playing Airsoft this way, by all means do it. But right now this is a cliche newbie thread. There isn't anything wrong with that, we all started somewhere. I owned a crossdraw and a sniper rifle once too but we're here to help. So take everything I say as constructive, I don't mean to offend. [editline]24th April 2012[/editline]
/I updated it with a different vest.
That's not exactly what I meant. That's a crossdraw too. Crossdraws were originally designed to be worn by pilots, they don't fit well, are uncomfortable to use and are generally bad vests but companies like to mark them up to $50 and sell them to new players. This for example is only $20 and will perform all the abilities the crossdraw does but it will fit you better, last longer and isn't a total rip off. Comes in any color you want as well. http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=28_96&products_id=994 The only down side is you need to get a stand alone holster, which is actually a good thing because drawing a pistol across your body is not good and I know plenty of people who've lost pistols and mags to those crossdraw holsters.

I strayed away from an AEG because it feels like wasting bullets. The satisfaction of hitting a target with one shot and them having no idea where it came from is pretty nice. I can hit man-sized targets anywhere from 75-100 yards with relative ease, any further and the BB drops out of the air. I've been eyeing the PDI Hop-up chamber, Madbull 6.01mm tightbore, a new piston/spring/spring guide, etc. I've been thinking about pulling the trigger and buying those as well. I already have a Crosman pistol holster, but I find it can get in the way sometimes. I haven't worn a crossdraw so you have a better idea about it than I do. I definitely don't want the ghillie to look like a newb, like I said, I just enjoy stealthy gameplay. I've never really been the up-close-and-personal type. Let me actually look at Evike really quick, not sure why I started at Amazon.
I would actually invest more money into the rifle to get it to shoot 300ft+ (if you're absoloutely sure you don't like aegs, otherwise I'd recommend tuning an aeg to be a dmr and shoot far) r-hop might be a good idea just wondering though, since you're getting proper goggles, have you been backyarding until now or what?

We don't have any airsoft teams or arenas up in Olympia, so we make do with what we've got.
I would highly recommend a DMR over a springer rifle but that's just me.... if you're against a bunch of AEGs it's fairly difficult to compete; not turning you down or ridiculing you but I'm fairly certain that no sniper rifles perform great unless you're playing in the woods with a $500 upgrade and plus the rate of fire on the DMR aegs can help you follow up shots you missed, as well as mow down cheaters [editline]23rd April 2012[/editline] on topic though, you should look at another vest, I doubt crossdraws hold sniper rifle mags well [editline]23rd April 2012[/editline] and for the ammo wasting part, I feel you, I hate to lay down automatic fire with my SOC16 so I shoot semi and it's loads more fun than cocking your rifle as they shoot back at you with their superior rate of fire
Pretty sure I'll stick with the rifle, it can already hit damn near 300 feet :D
Not to be a dick but that's not true, I can tell you already. 300+ feet shots come from an assload of time, money, and build technique, they don't just happen off a regular old springer. I've got 2 rifles with more than $500 in each that hardly pass 250 feet. Unless you've got video evidence, I'm gonna have to claim that you're exaggerating. If you'd like to be a sniper, go for it, but be prepared for lots of time, research, and money going into the affair, which is similar in many ways to the gameplay of a sniper itself.

It's apparently the best and cheapest mid-level sniper on the market right now. I am indeed prepared to put money into it... as I said somewhere above I already have a line of upgrades ready, I just need to order them when I feel that I need to. Anyway, I'm really not trying to compete with a bunch of AEGs or cheaters or anything. Like I said, we don't have airsoft arenas or teams up here and we normally just do skirmishes with up to 6 people in woodland areas. They're perfect for the role I'm trying to play.

They all shoot about 150-200 feet with accuracy. Range is the biggest speculative matter in airsoft, because short of a laser rangefinder, its very hard to ID the exact distance traveled, especially because terrain and hills are always a factor. Now of course if you have a large hill on your side or if you arc your shots like a grenade launcher, that range is probably possible, but you don't exactly have a sniper rifle if you're not shooting in a nearly straight line. I also suggest avoiding a ghillie suit, because very rarely do premade ones let you blend into an environment. Your best bet is to take a good look at your field, and then either make your own suit or to select a suitable uniform pattern. Since airsoft happens at ranges less than 800m, ghillie suits work surprisingly less than they should, unless you really take a lot of time to do everything just right, as well as sprinkling in a bit of luck. [editline]24th April 2012[/editline] Oh also, if I had to recommend a gear setup, consider looking into a belt/harness rig. They're designed to be lightweight and should carry all the gear you'd need as a sniper. You can either go for the old ALICE sets which work quite well and are very affordable, or you could do something like I have with a molle battle belt and an h-harness. My belt fits a triple STANAG mag pouch, a double pistol mag pouch, a holster, and it has plenty of room on the back for dump pouches and things that you don't need quick access to. The harness I wear also takes up a minimum amount of space and allows for easy wearing of a backpack or hydration carrier. Either way, your best bet as a sniper is lightweight and with low capacity. Also, in my experience those UTG L96 mags fit quite snugly in your average pistol mag pouch, and the spring design keeps them right where you want them.

Oh yeah, as I ask of all new members, if you have pictures of your field that's the best way for us to help you, so if you have some time, feel free to post them here and we can steer you towards specifics for the land. I imagine that my woods on the East Coast are quite different from yours in the Northwest.

If you want to go lightweight go with a chest rig or belt. Here's something in your price range, going to be a lot better than that Swiss Arms vest. Trust me I've seen them in person and their quality is horrible, looks like they're going to tear easily. This chest rig has 4 pistol mag pouches, which should be able to hold the L96 mags if they're similar in size to BAR 10 mags. If you ever get another rifle later on I can tell you those rifle mags pouches will hold just about any type of mag out there (M4, AK, M14, SR25, etc.). You can also use the pouches as a pistol holster, as it comes with velcro straps on the outer pouches. http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=28_172&products_id=10322
Crossdraw for a sniper seems like the worst idea ever, since you'd go prone on your pistol very often. Baad. Also, I have the exact same swissarms west. Holds up pretty well somehow, but I didn't really field it a lot, so I guess it'll fuck up on longer run. But the pistol mag pouches barely close with slim 1911 mags in them, you'd have to hold your l96 mags in the bigger ones. There's some pouches for useful stuff and these two huge inside pockets that you can fill up with 2x5000 bb bags each. I bought mine just because it was the only vest available at the time when I realised I lost my main vest somehow. Would not buy otherwise.
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=28_172&products_id=10322
seems a bit low for a sniper setup, no? i'd try and find something like that soviet SVD rig, where it was up at your tits so you could prone comfortably
I recommend: 1. molle vest so you can set it up as you need later 2. no balaclava unless you want to sweat like a pig 3. forget the ghille
