• Artillery fire exchanged between North and South Korean vessels
North and South Korea have exchanged fire into the sea across the disputed western sea border, South Korea says. North Korea announced early on Monday that it would hold live-fire drills in seven parts of the border area. South Korea says it returned fire after North Korean shells landed in its territorial waters. The area has been a flashpoint between the two Koreas. The UN drew the western border after the Korean War, but North Korea has never recognised it. In late 2010, four South Koreans were killed on a border island by North Korean artillery fire. 'Responded with fire' The live-fire exercises were announced by North Korea in a faxed message from its military to the South's navy. The exercises would take place in seven border areas, the message said. Map South Korean had warned of immediate retaliation if any ordinance crossed the border. "Some of the shells fired by North Korea dropped in our area and our side responded with fire," a military spokesman told AFP news agency. "For the moment, both sides are firing into the sea." South Korea's Yonhap news agency said "several rounds" of North Korean shells landed south of the Northern Limit Line, as the disputed border is known. In response, South Korea's military shot "dozens of artillery shells with K-9 self-propelled howitzers" and despatched F-15K fighter jets, the agency said. Residents of a border island, Baengnyeong, were evacuated into shelters, reports said.
BBC Can we please liberate the North Koreans now?
Can we not?
"For the moment, both sides are firing into the sea
I get the message trying to be conveyed but this just sounds silly.
BBC Can we please liberate the North Koreans now?
Come up with the money it will take to deal with rebellions, and develop the country over a long period of time, along with a stream of volunteers, sure why not. Also remember, it's not so simple as replacing the government and throwing food at the populace.

No matter the way North Korea falls, it'll be a very bloody end that we'll still have to put up with in the end.
Once NK touches just the inch of South Korean land, they will have actual reason to retaliate and break that peace treaty It's seriously time someone put an end to this dick waving

Except it happens once.

Seriously man I agree with most of you so far. At this rate we'll stall so long they actually will use a nuclear device on South Korea. It's only been escalating and the leadership is clearly deranged beyond recognition. This is not a joke any longer.
Please no war I do not want to die for either Korea or Israel. Same for my fellow man too.
Once NK touches just the inch of South Korean land, they will have actual reason to retaliate and break that peace treaty It's seriously time someone put an end to this dick waving
I'd rather not see innocent people die. No matter what we do to retaliate all we'll be doing is convincing them that the world outside NK is as barbaric as they said it was.
You know, the biggest thing I'm surprised at is the fact that someone isn't just trying to restart the war to get it over with.
Too risky, NK may dickwave about nukes but honestly no one wants to touch a country who is so uncontrollable and unpredictable that it could possibly start a nuclear war If that wasn't the case, SK and the US would of got this over with
I don't know what should be done about North Korea. I feel like it's both a bad idea to start a war with them but also a bad idea to wait around. Either way a lot of innocent people are going to die because of this nation and I feel like it needs to be taken care off sooner rather than later. The best we can hope for is a collapse of the government and a (semi) peaceful coup attempt/civilian take over. But I seriously doubt that happen. I fear that North Korea's liberation will be at the blood of many innocent people no matter how it happens.

Title gave me a heart attack

They're actually shooting into the water to kill fish so they can feed the people.
They're actually shooting into the water to kill fish so they can feed Dear Leader, who's excellent aura of glory keeps the North Korean people healthy and alive.
FTFY
I don't think there's any chance of seeing a unified Korea for a long time, the North is so screwed up that I doubt the South wants anything to do for it (As in, it's a huge issue for the North Korean government to feed and clothe it's people, take them out and suddenly that becomes the problem of the South Korean government) And then you have infrastructure, building up the communications/power/water/sewage systems to modern standards would be a huge undertaking (So much so that other countries often don't want to even upgrade theirs, like our government and the NBN)
The live-fire exercises were announced by North Korea in a faxed message from its military to the South's navy.
South Korea also stated that the fax was followed by 5 blacked-out blank pages to waste South Korean Fax machine ink.

War Donuts anyone?
Heres some shots of the Artillery going off
?? They're the smoke dischargers going off from those AFVs during a training exercise, not artillery. If artillery landed that close to south korean troops there'd be some far more serious shit going down.
