Why do people get so anal about religion? I mean, i dont believe in god, but im neither Right or Wrong if hes alive, cause no one knows. People that fight over religion is just like someone arguing that his purple flying unicorn is better looking that your purple flying unicorn. Until someone gets an interview with a religious god or some crazy religious event happens like the rapture in bioshock, no ones right or wrong about whos religion is the real one.
Human nature. People like to argue. They can't help it
It is an emotionally charged subject, compelling people with differences to argue.
Human nature. People like to argue. They can't help it
Agreed
Because atheists here like to get anal whenever god or jesus is mentioned. See: The Book of Eli thread in Film and Television. [editline]11:53PM[/editline] http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=873812
Because it's an old subject that has been disproven to death, and yet people are still ignorant enough to try to refute their beliefs.
Because atheists here like to get anal whenever god or jesus is mentioned. See: The Book of Eli thread in Film and Television.
Correction, angsty teens who don't want to go to church and want to rebel against their parents and peers like to argue, even though they aren't really atheist.
I believe the psychology behind it is people like to feel a sense of superiority over others. Being right over the vast majority (the religious people) or being right over the minority (atheists) or even other religious people makes one feel better about their own intelligence. Which may suggest insecurity. You feel better the bigger the group you think you're better than. That being said, there are numerous other reasons. Many religious people just hate having the beliefs that have been almost hard wired into their minds questioned or de-valued, so i believe my idea applies more so to athiests (the militant ones, more so than the average ones). Not that i am religious of course. I dispelled theistic beliefs at a young age because my parents told me to believe whatever makes me happier.

You know what, fuck it. I'm not an Atheist anymore, I'm a fucking JEDI
You know what, fuck it. I'm not an Atheist anymore, I'm a fucking JEDI
and i am a space viking
I just simply choose to ignore any thread that looks like a religious vs. atheist shitstorm.
Because of all the shit religion has caused. I don't hate anyone who believes in a religion, but I certainly hate the religions themselves.
Because it's an old subject that has been disproven to death, and yet people are still ignorant enough to try to refute their beliefs.
You can't really "disprove" religion when it's completely based on faith. But to OP, a lot of religions don't call for people fighting about it, but some people just aren't right mentally or they take their beliefs to the extreme.
Because of all the shit religion has caused. The answer to progress is not through argument, but education.
Bad ideas for threads: Religion
Also, as I said in the other religious thread made earlier today:
I've come to notice that overly religious people act retarded. I've come to see that a lot of atheists go out of their way to bash for no reason, only to feed their (the one's that go out-of-their-way) insecurity that comes with being a growing teenager. IN conclusion: People who argue about religion are usually idiots. IN other conclusion: People who argue about religion on the internet are ALWAYS blatant retards. I'm Christian, and I don't hate atheists, everyone believes what they want. So long as it doesn't drive them into doing stupid things like suicide, mass murders, ect.; I don't really care about your beliefs.
Throughout ages, religion have done terrible, terrible things, and, some people are realising that more and more frequently, therefore, they don't want it anymore. Atleast not the political part. Stop being so selfish as to think you're in any way better for not picking a side, the pope is out looking for new ways to kill homosexuals as we speak...
Oh god 13-yr-old angst atheists are so annoying, I hate them.
ban them all
Oh god 13-yr-old atheists are so annoying, I hate them.
Replace athiests with christian and you have what a typical 13 year old athiest would say.

I've said this before, but I was a diehard christian before reading the debates here. Logic won, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who reads the arguments.

This thread can only end well.

Not everyone will question their beliefs in the same manor you did, unfortunately. Argument is education, correct, but it's too forceful. People reading the arguments will pick a side, and many, if not the majority of the religious will go down with their sinking ship rather than admit they're wrong, even to themselves. I say, teach children science, teach children religious education (Not religious education that says god is real, but religious education that teaches children about various religions.) And let them choose. Over time, common sense will prevail.
So I'm not even allowed to explain? :fuckoff: Arrogant sod...
Of course you're allowed to, but it's not going to do much, really, apart from making a bunch of theists hate athiests more. Sorry if you took that personally, i really didn't mean to annoy you. Though i don't see how i've expressed an over inflated opinion of myself.
Y'know, not every argument is atheists going LOL GOD DOESN'T EXIST and theists going UH HE HE DOES TOO. There are actual reasonable arguments, sometimes...
