Mueller III, according to four people briefed on the matter, raising the specter of a monthslong court battle over whether the president must answer questions under oath. His lawyers are concerned that the president, who has a history of making false statements and contradicting himself, could be charged with lying to investigators. Their stance puts them at odds with Mr. Trump, who has said publicly and privately that he is eager to speak with Mr. Mueller as part of the investigation into possible ties between his associates and Russia’s election interference, and whether he obstructed justice. Mr. Trump’s decision about whether to speak to prosecutors, expected in the coming weeks, will shape one of the most consequential moments of the investigation. Refusing to sit for an interview opens the possibility that Mr. Mueller will subpoena the president to testify before a grand jury, setting up a court fight that would dramatically escalate the investigation and could be decided by the Supreme Court. Rejecting an interview with Mr. Mueller also carries political consequences. It would be certain to prompt accusations that the president is hiding something, and a court fight could prolong the special counsel inquiry, casting a shadow over Republicans as November’s midterm elections approach or beyond into the president’s re-election campaign.
Literally retarded. v:v:v
I think they know he'll self incriminate within a few minutes of the interview beginning.
Let's face it, the guy is probably too much of a coward to agree to it anyway. He couldn't even face "Crazy Bernie" Sanders in a debate because he knew Sanders would tear him to shreds. Realistically, the only way we'll get an interview is if Mueller puts some sort of yet-unknown legal pressure on him and makes any alternatives even more hazardous for Trump than the interview already is. I mean, there's no way Trump would be stpuid enough to just blindly agree to this, right? Right?
It seems unlikely they'd be able to successfully resist a grand jury subpoena given the decision in US v Nixon so this is kinda just easy way vs hard way [editline]6th February 2018[/editline] This could backfire really fuckin badly cus if they get grand jury subpoenad then Trump is not allowed to have a lawyer present, it would literally just be him and the prosecutors in front of the jury (source)
I think they know he'll self incriminate within a few minutes of the interview beginning.
A few minutes? That's pretty generous.

Trump's 12D game here is to incriminate himself so many times that he crashes Mueller's computer system and destroys the probe from within
Mueller's going to get the interview after Trump gets subpoena'd anyway, so he might as well get it over with. They're just delaying the inevitable imo.
This illustrates why they're a bit troubled
Mueller's going to get the interview after Trump gets subpoena'd anyway, so he might as well get it over with. The GOP will continue to wage war against the credibility of the FBI, smearing the investigation as a partisan witch hunt and the investigators as paid criminal hatchetmen. Nunes has announced he has as many as FIVE more "memos" planned -- each one hyped with weeks of assurances that it proves corruption at the highest levels of the DOJ. As they tear down public faith in the DOJ among their base, it positions the GOP to ignore the findings of the investigation and refuse to impeach when charges are recommended. Basically, they know that fucker is guilty, and are buying time to manufacture pretenses in which they won't have to impeach him because they know that admitting Trump's crimes after spending a year vehemently denying them, calling the investigation a sham, and attacking the DOJ proves a vast conspiracy within the GOP to undermine the rule of constitutional law.
1: I can't recall him saying anything about that. 2: I can't recall doing anything like that.
Every single answer would be something along the lines of "I can't recall."
Every single answer would be something along the lines of "I can't recall."
And claiming the Fifth. And asserting executive privilege without previously registering said assertions on paper before the interview. Hint, it doesn't count if you just pull it out of your ass without formally filing it and having the assertions litigated on.
Subpoena incoming. If the lawyer makes him refuse to voluntarily talk, subpoena him and make him go before the grand jury where they can exclude his lawyer.
Subpoena incoming.
1: I can't recall him saying anything about that. 2: I can't recall doing anything like that.
except he can be compelled to testify unlike jeffy sessions. "I don't recall" isn't sufficient of an answer, unless he pleads the 5th
Sort of off-topic, but has there been any news out of Mueller's investigation lately? Like indictments and such. Seems like trump's taking the spotlight lately.
Come on, guys, let him speak with Bob. Itt'l be great fun! Laughs will be had! And he'll get a chance to genuinely MAGA!
1: I can't recall him saying anything about that. 2: I can't recall doing anything like that.
1: Yes or no, Mr President. 2: As I said earlier, Yes or No.
gates is most likely cutting a deal, having fired his trial lawyer and replaced him with a pair known for cutting deals
Oh yeah forgot about that one for a bit.

If it’s anything like his Twitter he’d prove himself guilty in minutes
1: I can't recall him saying anything about that. 2: I can't recall doing anything like that.
If he "can't recall" virtually everything, couldn't one call into question his mental faculties, and either ask him once again to do his best to remember, or get the fuck out of the white house because, apparently, by his own admission, his brain is fucking mush.
Q: Are you currently the President of the United States? A: I can't recall. Q: Yeah, me neither.
He could always go the way of Frank Underwood. Showboat about how awesome he is before suddenly resigning the presidency prior to being done for sexual harrassment.
To be fair, there's a reason you can plead the fifth - even innocent people have a habit of incriminating themselves, and supplying the prosecution with a sworn testimony is a good way to make sure you can never allow yourself to misremember anything in a later testimony. Oftentimes you have nothing to gain from giving a testimony, whether you're innocent or guilty as hell. Not saying Trump is likely to be innocent, but isn't it basically the norm for lawyers to advise against testimony where you aren't yet charged or the like?

He'll do a large part of Mueller's work for him. Besides, you know damn well if you plead the fifth the investigators assume that means you're guilty and double down on every effort the law offers them to find proof of the wrongdoing.
