Nutrition is an important part of daily life. What you eat can affect anything from your general well being to even your mood. It is necessary to eat properly so that you can function at your best. Contrary to what most people think, eating healthy can actually be enjoyable and taste good. Ok so let's get into this. Obligatory Food Pyramid This is a basic food pyramid and it shows what the average person should be eating every day. There are some exceptions and ultimately it depends on the individual and if you're trying to lose or gain weight. Red Meat vs. White Meat Red meat typically has more fat with the protein and is harder to digest. If you are trying to bulk this would be a good choice. White meat is in most cases low calorie and high protein. This is good for weightlifting and cutting. Personally, I think that white meat is overall better but once again it depends on circumstance. The Importance of Organic Foods Many people don't see the importance of eating organic food and in some specific foods such as: onions, bananas, and potatoes it's not. This is because most pests either don't enjoy them or corporations can apply the pesticides on a skin that is already inedible. However many foods like apples, peaches, pears, or almost any sort of food that has an exposed edible surface that the pesticides are directly applied. This is obviously because you do not want to ingest the poisons that are meant to kill the insects so they don't eat the food that you are wanting to eat. It may also be a good idea to get most organic meats or free range farms. There have been studies that meats from factories where the animals are cramped in cages with very little room causes the animals to become very uneasy thus releasing many stress hormones through out the body which can actually be unhealthy to ingest. Finally, eating organic food is not only good for you but helps to promote sustainable living. I understand it costs more but you only have one body so you should take the best possible care of it. I want to eat good tasting food. How can I eat healthy at the same time This depends a lot on the individual but I will do my best to provide some options. Fruit is nature's candy. It has many necessary sugars and vitamins your body needs to operate properly while simultaneously being juicy and sweet. Protein is necessary for your body to operate properly daily basis. However, most Americans eat well over the recommended daily amount of protein. This can be very unhealthy depending on how much protein you ingest. The amount you actually need depends heavily on the amount you exercise. Some great high protein foods include chicken, tuna, beans, lentils, salmon, peanuts, peanut butter, etc. Vegetables are almost always low calorie and high vitamins. They are somewhat notorious from not tasting particularly great, however, this is not always the case and once again highly depends on individual preference. My favorite vegetables include broccoli, carrots, spinach, corn, and peas. I will continue to update this thread as I see fit. This is mainly meant to help inform people and promote healthy eating. You may also discuss nutrition and ask questions. "Your body is my temple and thou shall keep it ripped so you can get as much pussy as possible." 1 Binsky 4:18
Good thread, but I suggest you add a list of Micro and Macro nutrients and where they are found.
You should add a part on bulking techniques. (What things are good to eat, how often/much you should eat.) As well as cutting.
You should add a part on bulking techniques. (What things are good to eat, how often/much you should eat.) As well as cutting.
we`re gonna make bulking and cutting threads, just experimenting with what we should do in this new forum section of ours
Do you know any good restaurant to eat outside? For circunstances outside of my control, I can no longer eat at home. A healthy restaurant of course! :buddy: Also, I want a diet to bulk up. Insane amounts of spaghetti come in mind. Where do they serve spaghetti?
mcdonalds
You should add a part on bulking techniques. (What things are good to eat, how often/much you should eat.) As well as cutting.
why bulk and cut when u can have a proper diet all the time? O_o
why bulk and cut when u can have a proper diet all the time? O_o
because bulking is the most efficient way of putting on muscle
mcdonalds
I used to eat at Mc donalds, 3 TIMES a week. For MONTHS. Now it's been a year since I last stepped inside a MC donalds. I lost 10 KG ever since I work out.
because bulking is the most efficient way of putting on muscle
yeah but weight swings arent rly that good
I eat mcdonalds to gain weight, it's awesome and cheap [editline]25th February 2011[/editline]
yeah but weight swings arent rly that good
What do you mean? You don't have weight swings, you bulk up over months then cut over months. You don't just alternate like every week or something
yeah but weight swings arent rly that good
Ask any bodybuilding pros, bulking is the most efficient way to put on muscle, and cutting is the best to lose fat. It`s not as drastic as 50 pounds over a week, in total one might gain 40 pounds in a year, and then lose 10 in a few months) What is bad about that? Where do they serve spaghetti?
youll need lots of carbs and proteins if you want to bulk up, so yes something like spaghetti is pretty good any restaurant will have it probably but if you want a quick meal but still want it to be healthy and full of good calories, go to subway, get a footlong sweet onion chicken teriyaki-over 50 grams of protein I believe
What do you mean? You don't have weight swings, you bulk up over months then cut over months. You don't just alternate like every week or something
Oh man, I've been doing it wrong all this time!!!
If you guys want I can add a section on bulking and cutting. I was just unsure whether or not I should consider people were planning on making cutting and bulking threads. Almost any restaurant today has at least one thing on the menu that is healthy. There are obviously going to be some restaurants that are better than others. Just try to avoid fried foods. A good general rule of thumb is the more natural the better.
hey i'm not going to be a jerk or anything about my diet vs. yours or whatever but I will challenge you on the claim that there are "necessary sugars"
hey i'm not going to be a jerk or anything about my diet vs. yours or whatever but I will challenge you on the claim that there are "necessary sugars"
Sour Patch Kids are necessary sugars. Find me an argument that says otherwise.

How important is it to eat before and after working out? Never really thought much about when I ate, just made sure I eat as much protein as I can (still not a lot though), didn't eat too much (trying to lose fat).

I hate Mcdonalds. Nothing compares to a meal made by yourself.

I thoroughly enjoy eating tins of mackerel, 200g, John West brand. Can anyone tell me about the nutritional info in relation to my bodybuilding, specifically if I can eat one tin of this a day towards my daily diet and not become a fatty-bum-bum. Here's the info: Nutritional Info (per 100g) Energy kJ 704 Energy kcal 169 Protein(g) 12.9 Carbohydrate(g) 5.8 Sugars(g) 4.6 Fibre(g) 0.3 Fat(g) 10.4 Saturates(g) 2.1 Polyunsaturates(g) 2.1 Omega-3(g) 1.5 Sodium(g) 0.4 I'm eating 2x this amount per tin bear in mind.
Eating a tin a day is some expensive business. What does it cost? 2 euro a tin? That times a 7 times 4 makes up for 48 euro's only for tins. The same cost of the average subscription monthly fees to most gyms.
I wouldn't recommend, even though I consume a lot my self, relaying on fish as a main protein source. Mercury, isn't that good for you.

Yeah, well, I don't eat at McDonalds. So. What up with McDonalds? :smug: On a more serious note; I've been looking at the nutrition values of mackerel, you sure the stats you posted are right? Mine says it has at least 20g of protein for every 100g, maybe you mixed up the 12.9 and it's supposed to be 21.9?
http://www.john-west.co.uk/product-information/mackerel-fillets-in-spicy-tomato-sauce/ Only 70% mackerel it seems, the rest must be the sauce.
