Buffalo Sabres President, Pat LaFontaine, Resigns after Ryan Miller trade.
Pat LaFontaine abruptly resigned as the Buffalo Sabres president of hockey operations on Saturday a little more than three months after being brought in to provide a new direction to the NHL's last-place team.
The Sabres announced the decision in a news release issued after speculation had been raised of a potential front-office shakeup involving LaFontaine.
"I would like to thank Pat for all he has done for the organization," Sabres owner Terry Pegula said in the release. "Pat joined us at a very difficult time, and helped transition the organization down a new path."
The Sabres said LaFontaine would be returning to his previous role working with the National Hockey League. LaFontaine had been working with the league on player safety issues before being hired by the Sabres in mid-November.
The former Sabres captain's arrival was hailed as a major turning point for a struggling team. LaFontaine took over following a front-office shakeup during which general manager Darcy Regier and coach Ron Rolston were dismissed following the Sabres' 4-15-1 start.
LaFontaine's first move was hiring former Sabres coach Ted Nolan to take over as coach on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.
LaFontaine's next step came in January, when he hired Tim Murray as general manager.
"Terry Pegula hired me in November, and my primary objective was to lead the Sabres organization through a time of transition," LaFontaine said in the Sabres' release. "I'm proud of what we've been able to accomplish in a short period of time, and want to thank Terry and Kim Pegula for the opportunity and their support during my time with the Sabres."
...I can't fucking believe it. We seriously traded Ryan Miller. Our Olympian Goaltender. Just... I... What?
It's bad enough we lost Ruff, but seriously, what the fuck!
we've been "rebuilding" for the past 5 season, come the fuck on guys
This is wild, there has never been this much activity in Buffalo.
If you're a Sabres fan you shouldn't be surprised that Ryan Miller was traded. It's been talked about for months now. He was the main player they were trying to get rid of. Not because of his play, he's an amazing goaltender, but because of financial reasons. Now they have Halak, Stewart, and Carrier, plus 2 draft picks. Obviously the Blues got the better players, but it's good for both teams, one who is trying to win the Cup, and the other who is trying to rebuild and eventually be a playoff team again.
Not a huge hockey fan, but I did notice this trade. Apparently after this went down each team was shorthanded for the night so they had to dress team staff as players. Trying to find pictures now

You're in a rebuild, get used to it.
Might as well get some assets for Miller rather than have him walk to a contender in free agency.
Now just flip Stewart & Moulson to the Senators, and we can all be friends. You took our assistant GM, so you kind of owe us.
