A script Judd Apatow wrote for The Simpsons 22 years ago is to finally make it to air, the screenwriter, director and producer has revealed.
In an online interview, the Anchorman creator said he had submitted a script during the sitcom's first season.
The script, he added, saw Homer Simpson hypnotised into thinking he was 10.
After speaking about his submission recently, he said he had received a call from the team behind the show saying it would be animated in 2013.
"I got a call from The Simpsons saying 'We're going to shoot that episode next year'," Apatow told Conan O'Brien on his Serious Jibber-Jabber internet show.
"Now I can retire," the 44-year-old went on to joke, adding that the "spec" - short for speculative - script was "the first thing [he] ever wrote".
Apatow is currently promoting This Is 40, a comedy built around two of the supporting characters from his 2007 success Knocked Up.
More than 500 episodes of The Simpsons have been broadcast since the animated comedy began its first season in December 1989.
pretty awesome
Maybe Homer finds an old ticket from 1990 for a hypno show he still can redeem.
The hypnotizer is old, and Homer comments this, booing him and whatnot. The hypnotizer hypnotizes Homer in return v:v:v

Or maybe he is hypnotised into getting a wacky new job
At first I thought the title would be "Simpsons to finally end" but then I realised that will never happen.
this could be the first good simpsons episode in years or just as shit as the rest
I wonder if they're going to keep in a 1990's pop cultural format. Probably not but that would be interesting.
At first I thought the title would be "Simpsons to finally end" but then I realised that will never happen.
It's going to end at the 25th season.

they're probably keeping the bare concept of "homer gets hypnotized to think he's 10" and mutilating it with their producers and current writers

Source?
this is only season 1 too and simpsons didn't really hit its stride until season 3/4 so i'm barely even interested. i don't think they'll ever be able to recapture the cynicism, sarcasm, and occasional contempt for itself and the audience the simpsons once had, to say nothing of the comedic timing.
I kinda want to think this is going to be great, slip from "canon" and feel just like a strangely well-animated early 90's The Simpsons episode but that's probably not going to happen
Maybe they'll actually animate this episode as well.

such a glassy-eyed thousand yard stare on that second one, it's creeping me the fuck out

didn't this episode already exist?

That first one looks way more natural. The second one is just bad.

It's funny, I've been watching The Simpsons for a long time and I have never noticed the lack of Marge's facial expressions in the newer intro compared to the older one.
Looking at it closely, it looks like they cut out a part of it.
You mean it might be funny again?

Old Simpsons > New Simpsons
You guys are exaggerating, some episodes from the newer seasons still got it.

Some do, most are based around 'wacky' but entirely safe (don't want to offend anyone) plots or "hey we got some celebrity to come on and barely put a story around our fauning over them".
The episode which encapsulates "Old Simpsons" for me is the one where they have George Harrison guest starring and he has like 3 lines in the whole show
pretty sure theres only two more seasons till it ends
Got stale after the third season. Second season was the best. I own it on DVD and it's great.

The newer version looks so awkward. Marge's blank stare, and the animations feel so half assed...
Is that really the best example to show degredation of quality? No. No it really isn't.
The writing on the show has gotten somewhat lazier in years gone by but seriously, the animation is much better now by miles and miles. The actual techniques of animation are more closely followed in the new work.
the animation is much better now by miles and miles.
No, every aspect of the current state of The Simpsons really has hit rock bottom, including the animation. I'd tell you why, but this article sums up the contrast quite nicely:

But that's not all. Here's a fine piece highlighting the expressive, lively, and dynamic quality of animation the series used to represent:

To put it simply, it doesn't matter how much HD you throw at it. The dead and sterile digital Simpsons will never be as cromulent as this:

They just get cut and paste style, robotic and stiff animations. They just slapped on a new coat of paint rather than actually improving on the older animation. Wasn't the gif lulzlalz posted earlier a testament to this?
