Blair McMillan, his partner Morgan Patey, and their two sons Trey, 5, and Denton, 2, are playing an elaborate game of make-believe, pretending it is the year 1986 — the year Blair and Morgan were born.
They even dress the part, with mullets for the three boys, an 80s-inspired hairstyle for Morgan, a true Tom Selleck Magnum P.I. moustache for Blair and vintage clothing for all.
"No cell phones, no computers, no internet. I basically wanted to mold it around my household when I was growing up," McMillan told The Morning Edition host Craig Norris on Thursday.
this is literally gunna solve nothing
Great, now the kids are going to be at a disadvantage in a world filled with technology.
Dad is a cunt in all honesty.
"I want my kids to live like I did back in the day."
"No cell phones, no computers, no internet. I basically wanted to mold it around my household when I was growing up,"
What a stupid reason.
I can understand you wanting them to not be so attached to their technology but this is the wrong way to go about it.
I can get only watching 80s shows or something but making it so you're living in the 80s is kinda wired

But there was phones and computers in the 80s so his point is fairly moot.
Yes, now when your kids are forced to enter a computer and technology filled work force and every day life, they will be perfectly adapted to not know what the fuck is going on.
Kids are gonna use computers at school's or friends' homes, watch.
Great, now the kids are going to be at a disadvantage in a world filled with technology.
And more importantly, a world without mullets.
the real question is, will he get mad at his kids for listening to metallica now too?
Guys, they're only doing it for a year, untwist your panties, jesus
I think it seems like a fun little thing as long as it's not permanent. It will give everyone a greater appreciation of the convenience of technology, and it seems like they are coming together more as a family which is nice as well.
If you are seriously faulting them I think you need to rethink some of your views regarding technology.

no because they're not really living like they did in the 80's. maybe in their house, but the rest of the world is providing what they need at a modern level
so no not so much

That band is just a fad they'll never catch on
with mullets for the three boys
Child protection services, NOW!
Not a bad idea, the 80s had pretty good music.
Do what you want with your home but leave the kids out of it man, don't force feed your childhood because you don't like theirs.
But there was mobile phones and computers in 1986.
Great, now the kids are going to be at a disadvantage in a world filled with technology.
Yeah, the 5 and 2 year olds are going to suffer horribly for the whole year of this.

Yeah, exactly how many of us had computers in our households when we were 5 or 2? I know I sure as hell didn't and I can manage just fine now. Hell I didn't have a computer until I was like 10. Stop over-reacting people. Jeez.
Snip - badly phrased post that was edited after I replied to it, or I can't read, take your pick

We had a computer when I was 5. However, this was before I knew the internet was a thing, which we didn't get until we got a new computer when I was 12 in 2003.

"I basically want to live the way I want through other people"

Yeah, I was agreeing with him. Probably shouldn't have quoted it though. I shall edit for clarity's sake.
OH MY GOD THIS IS TOO CLOSE TO HOME.
Really, I grew up in Guelph until I was 10. My parents worked to make ends meet so we were a decade behind. I'm looking at furnishings and a house that I FUCKING KNOW. That's my neighborhood!

i hear their original lead player has a new band, Mega something, and that they're much angrier and heavier than Metallica. crazy stuff huh
i had a computer when i was 5
I had a re-purposed rack-mount for a computer, sharp edges and armymen flags in the floppy and everything.
I think I was... 3 ish when my sister was teaching me to play on hers, she was 7. I got my own at 5 ish.
Windows 3.1 and DOS, bitches. dad even made a menu for my machine's DOS prompt. 1-8 were DOS games, 9 was Boot to Windows.
But there were computer at that time, like the Commodore 64 and IBM PC just to name two major ones.
i had a computer when i was 5
and look where you wound up
"I used to live outside, playing outside, and I realized how different my kids are."
Some people just dont understand that there are different people. I'm sure not everyone was like that back in 86 either.
