[t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/21/Bliss_(location).jpg[/t]
In an expected move, Microsoft will look to drop the Internet Explorer brand altogether for Project Spartan. The new Windows 10 browser will sport a new name, according to Microsoft marketing chief Chris Capossela during the company's Convergence event. Internet Explorer itself isn't going away any-time soon, but the successor will start with a clean slate. As reported by The Verge: "Internet Explorer will still exist in some versions of Windows 10 mainly for enterprise compatibility, but the new Project Spartan will be named separately and will be the primary way for Windows 10 users to access the web. Microsoft has tried, unsuccessfully, to shake off the negative image of Internet Explorer over the past several years." What's more is Microsoft is likely to include the company brand in the new browser name, thanks to research carried out with some Chrome users in the UK preferring 'Microsoft' at the front of the secret name. All we need to know is the final name that Microsoft finally settles with, and for the company to release a Windows 10 build for Insiders to test drive the new experience. Unfortunately, the next build won't be 10036.
It's not like that Internet Explorer will be missed.
To be fair, the last few versions of IE weren't terrible, but Chrome and Firefox are still far superior.
It's not like that Internet Explorer will be missed.
More or less saying goodbye to an era imo.
More or less saying goodbye to an era imo.
The era of opening IE once to download Firefox/Chrome
More or less saying goodbye to an era imo.
The era died 6 odd years ago.
Spartan sounds odd to say. I'm sure it won't after a while though.
Spartan sounds odd to say. I'm sure it won't after a while though.
It's a codename A.K.A placeholder. Like product natal (xbox kinect) or Windows Longhorn (vista). It won't be called Spartan If anything, Spartan comes from the fact that IE's rendering engine is called trident
Ill always remember using Internet explorer when I was young on XP... RIP in pepperoni

the first thing I did when I installed windows 7 was to disable IE
They might call it spartan Considering Cortana was a code name that they ended up just going with
Cortana was a recognizable part of a brand tho
just call it microsoft spartan as in "bare, stark, plain" i really hope they don't try to go for a browser with its own extensions and app stores and all that shit here's hoping they'll make a plain, simple, bare bones browser minus all the security loopholes and backdoors
It'll always be internet exploder to me.
Cortana was a recognizable part of a brand tho
It was also very, very well received by people who used the preview. [editline]17th March 2015[/editline]
To be fair, the last few versions of IE weren't terrible, but Chrome and Firefox are still far superior.
Some features are really cool, like pinning websites to the taskbar to open up an instance of IE dedicated for the website. Ultimately, I think it's just the lack of the big plugins that never helped IE reach FireFox/Chrome's levels. No adlock, first and foremost. Honestly, no "right click to copy image URL" item in the context menu definitely deterred me greatly.
What's awful is, we have some web products we use at work that require IE, and versions no later than IE8. Let me tell you how fun it is running on IE8. Spoiler alert, it isn't.
Cortana was a recognizable part of a brand tho
So is Spartan? I don't even play Halo and I know what it's referring to.
