Very interesting stuff!
Impressive how they made the chalkboard doodles of dead people invoke such emotion.
Still, didn't quite understand the ending. Sure, fewer people are dying, but that's no reason to feel at ease with the horrible things going on.
Should we turn off the news and look at our clocks and go "Ah, peace!" ?
no, he specifically states in the video he's not trying to make any statements like that
Well I guess I'm a fucking retard with the attention span of a potato then.

The interactive one was very neat. Especially at the end.
holy shit I've heard the numbers many times before, but the graphs really put it to scale. jesus christ.
The 'long peace' scares me.
How do we know it won't come crashing down on us?
The same thing was almost said before World War I, that every country is too interdependent on each other to go to war, but that all changed when one man was shot.

I knew the number, well there about's, but seeing the tally go on and on and on (espcially the Russian front) made me feel sick. As much as I love WW2 history it's always harrowing when you see the statistics. All those lives gone.
Rather good video.

The world has developed in such a way especially economically that a World War 3 scenario would do untold damage, both in casualties and to the economy. But said development has made a world where a Large Scale Conflict is too much trouble than it's worth so it's a big deterrent to such conflicts.
I doubt WW3 is ever going to happen, and if it did it'd mean the end of the way we live as we know it, the world would become a much more isolated off from each other more than likely.
So many people died, I hope there won't be such a big world conflict in the future too
There actually can never be, if such a conflict did happen like I said everything would change.
I mean look at 9/11 and how much that changed the world.

Depends on how you look at it.
Right now, via the realist perspective, we're currently in a stage of equilibrium but that does not last and eventually we'll go back to empires.
Fighting over resources will probably the biggest catalyst.
Yeah exactly, we'd go back to living like we did prior to WW1 in a way.
What is ironic considering WW1 is a big reason why we no longer live in empires.
When we stop people from profiting from wars there will be no wars. This means more democracy, more trade and more international connections.
You mean when people stop disagreeing with each other there will be no wars..
There are plenty of wars (like the many in Africa) where there has been no profit to be made.

Diamond mines, Oil, control of the country, not being oppressed by another tribe/ethnic group, etc.
I disagree with quite a few people and don't want to kill them.
What about racial and ideological genocide? There's not much profit in killing a group of people based on their race/religion etc. but it still happens.
and even in the cases you provided they're still disagreeing with each other, they're disagreeing with who should be the owner of said diamonds, oil, land etc.
You can't really boil War down to "It happen's because it can be profitable" It's a lot more complex than that.

I can only imagine how many times this was said over the course of human history.
Every time something major did happen, things changed drastically for better or for worse. Things will never stop changing, no matter how large or small, negative or positive the impact may or may not be. You can't predict the future, and if history has taught us anything, anything at all, it's that one should never assume what lies ahead and take that assumption as fact.
The thing is though we have weapons that can level entire cities to the ground, there'd be no way to really advance if you were fighting another rich country because we'd just bomb the shit out of each other.
There is a big reason why the cold war never escalated, because both Russia and America knew if it did the Death toll would be Unimaginable and with things like the Cuban Missile Crisis we grew really close to war, but lucky our World Leaders stepped back and looked at the big picture and realized if another wide-scale conflict happened humanity itself might not come back from it or at the least we'd have a couple less countries.
Like the weapons our militaries have are part of the reason why there hasn't been a war between two rich countries in so long, we literally can't afford a full-scale war, any land affected by the war would likely be un-usable and uninhabitable.
Imagine this but times a million.

Like WW1 happened just barely 100 years ago with way worse technology and we still can't use a lot of the soil affected by the war for farming.
People squabble over many petty things but we do have a knack for self-preservation. Most people when approached with the option for say Nuclear war have turned away from it. Like when Stanislav Petrov refused to believe America had actually fired a Nuke and truthfully deducted it was just a fault of the early-warning system, we grew very close to nuclear war due to a fault in a machine but the humans involved made the conscious decision not to retaliate because they knew the warning system just might be wrong and if they did retaliate they could've potentially doomed us all.

World leaders change. I agree with you completely, but I also firmly believe anything can happen, and the world powers are always up to something. China building those artificial islands for who knows what (maybe not a big deal or anything at all even, but like I said it's always something), cyber warfare, etc. and who knows what else. I'm not saying WW3 will happen, I hope it doesn't, and I don't believe it will happen anytime soon if ever, but I'm definitely not going to say it won't period because assuming something will never happen just because is setting oneself up for failure.
The governments of the world have all kind of scenarios set in place for pretty much anything war or not, and a lot of them are for "what-ifs", odds aside.
That was very interesting. Learned quite a bit that I hadn't before, and I'm a History buff. Hadn't really visualized the scale of things until now, really quite the eye opener.

Having Yang Wen-li as an avatar and saying that is kinda ironic

Mankind should really celebrate that day as global holiday.
Two things that really hit me was seeing the Russian tally and seeing the clock at the end on the interactive movie.
I knew about most of the history involved in this, but seeing the numbers visualized like this, just wow.

We kinda take peace for granted nowadays huh
I wonder how long that will last

Thing is that most of the people who stopped the Cold War from escalating were people who remembered the devastation that World War II was - through personally being involved in it or being involved in the chaotic post-war world. And those people are for the most part gone, and sure as hell will be gone in a few decades.
