It's Indev. If you pre-purchase the full game you get access to it. It's less of a new gamemode and more of a crazy awesome reinvisioning of what Minecraft is generally regarded as, that being a Sandbox game.

This is the worst part about the survival mode. Enemies can spawn ANYWHERE. They might even spawn while you're looking RIGHT AT THEM if they are far away enough. It makes building a fort completely useless. Also, enemies will keep spawning and gravitate toward you. Try it. Make a tower to stand on where no spawn enemies could possibly get you. Leave the game open for 30 minutes. You'll have hoards of enemies at the bottom.

They don't spawn in light.
so building a fort is useful.
I tried the single player demo or whatever it is and found it really laggy at times. I don't see why, the game seems pretty basic.
The game is in alpha, Jurikuer. Also the free game is mediocre compared to the alpha version.
Currently coding for lighting makes a dickload of memory leaks, but it's being sorted soon. Notch is an awesome developer.

Luckily for you this isn't Survival. It's Indev, where enemies only spawn in areas of 5 light shades or darker!
There is no save option in Survival Mode either, at least not in the public one. In case no one got that (Not sure if anyone said it before either)

They spawn in places without a light source. So around in random places during night time.
Is it worth buying the game to have the indev survival?
It's worth it, even more when he make multiplayer survival
