• EA's $130 Collectors Edition of Battlefield 1 Does Not Include Game
Amazon's exclusive collector's edition for Battlefield 1 costs $129.99 and doesn't include Battlefield 1. Available for all three of the game's formats, the item's listing is pretty specific: "Battlefield 1 Exclusive Collector's Edition - Does Not Include Game". So what does a game-less video game collector's edition include? Let's see (I'll help annotate): 14" statue (not the game) Exclusive steelbook (not the game) Cloth poster (not the game) Deck of playing cards (different game) Messenger pigeon tube containing exclusive DLC (for the game, but not the game) Patch (not the game) Premium Pacakaging (not the game)
IGN
fucking hell, if this isnt a joke then EA is...
Fucking what
That must be a mistake. And why does it only cost 130 $, I have to pay 210 eu for the collectors.
Isn't the steelbook the game tho'?
Feels like making an issue out of nothing. You can chose "Not Machine Specific" which only gives you the the items in the bundle, for a lesser price as the game isn't included.
I can see where they're going with this, I've often seen collector's editions that were specific to a platform you weren't gonna play the game on (often PC), which would force you to sell or replace the actual game disk, often making you lose money on it. $130 for just "the extra stuff" is kind of a lot, though.
Amazon has a bundle that is just the collectors stuff but also carries the standard collector's edition with game on their site.

Okay so correct me if I'm wrong but normally collectors editions are close to $200. Now you can buy the game and decide later if you want the collectors edition, buy them together, or as someone suggested, avoid problems due to console specific packages. I know it appears silly at first but it really isn't as dumb as you guys are making it out to be

Doesn't even appear silly to be honest, just IGN being retards.
This is great to be honest. Kinda how you can often upgrade digital normal editions to a digital collectors editions in a few games, just for the physical CE. Quality game journalism.
i genuinely don't understand why this is a bad thing (if you assume that the game is only sold separately) this is good because: 1. you can go back and buy it if you liked the game more than you thought you would 2. it's harder for it to sell out since there are no platform specific versions
I actually wish titanfall 2 would do this, I want the collector's with the helmet but it's only avalibale for consoles, and I want the pc version.
Wasn't there a big stink over the collector's edition of mirror's edge catalyst not coming with the game too? And didn't that turn out to be a hoax?
Yeah I just checked Amazon. Its one of several options when you search for BF1 Collector's Edition. There's a deluxe collector's which is $210 USD with the game, a regular collector's with the game which is 190, and the collector's edition sans game for 130. In other words its not a big deal unless you don't like how expensive it is in general, but that's a separate issue.
Yup that's exactly what I think it is for. Doesn't even appear silly to be honest, just IGN being retards.
Makes sense. Hadn't heard of that happening before hence why I was surprised.
Yup that's exactly what I think it is for. Doesn't even appear silly to be honest, just IGN being retards.
trying to manufacture outrage.
Did IGN not get EA's bribe for the month and decide to throw imaginary dirt at them or something
It's a pretty good idea to be honest
There are only two things in life you can be cynical about: Politics, and video game journalism. I'm now starting think you should be much more cynical about the latter than the former. Still... it was EA, so honestly I wouldn't have been too surprised if they went that route. Collector editions like this are extraordinarily priced and one hopes only a few people will buy them.
wolfenstein sort of did this too. except it wasn't "machine specific". either you got the CE or you got the standard
Holy shit the comments section of that article is unbelievably stupid. I legitimately feel dumber reading it. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised though.

If you want to buy the game digitally, and get access to the game the instant it's released without having to wait for it to arrive by post you can still get the fancy shit without paying extra for the game a second time.
it's a great idea actually, you can play the actual game while you wait for the fancy statues and cards to arrive at your home
