If the story last week about the middle school students bullying a bus monitor riled you up about young people these days, this might make you angrier. Middle school students in New York went on a field trip to the 9/11 memorial site and were subsequently kicked out after several of them were caught throwing trash in the fountains. And on top of that, one of the students got in trouble for having bullets in his pocket as they went through the metal detector.
One of the students told the New York Daily News that his classmates were throwing baseballs in the fountains, while nearby witnesses said they saw “plastic soda bottles and other refuse” thrown in as well. A school teacher who was visiting the memorial at the time said what they did was “an absolute disgrace” and the students “need to be taught to be respectful.”
The situation is apparently so serious that, according to the Daily News, officials from the Department of Education are investigating the matter. The head of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association said, “It is really so sad that anyone would disrespect the souls that were lost in the terrorist attacks back on 9/11.” One of the students gave this response:
“No one was disrespecting. It wasn’t nothing like that… No one was being serious. Everyone was kind of bored and it was just something to do.”
The youth of America, ladies and gentlemen. And one kid who spoke anonymously revealed that a classmate was caught with ammunition in his pocket.
“The kid had three bullets when they went through the metal detector,” said a JHS 292 student who wouldn’t give his name because he feared the other kids might take revenge.
“All the kids saw the cops come and take the bullets,” the boy added.
Police said they discovered three .33-caliber rounds in a plastic bin in the security area of the monument on Thursday, but they did not make any arrests.

This is disgusting.
Agreed. Fucking kids these days.
motherfuckers

Little bastards, someone needs to teach them a lesson, I think.
The problem is that these kids were babies when 9/11 happened, they remember fuck all about 9/11.
Little fuckers. I see kids doing shit like this all the time, usually messing about in graveyards. It's as if nobody has taught them about respect or basic manners.
Some food for thought:

Now honestly, although the place was particularily touchy, but it doesn't surprise me that middle school kids were goofing off on a field trip. I remember going to wartime museums way back in the day when I was in middle school and I was bored to death. It was only until I was older, did I truly realize and understand the gravity and magnitude of the world wars, and why they were so important that we remember.
They are just too young to truly understand why they are there.
I wish someone would've hauled off and knocked out one of those little shits.
Lol I doubt any middle schooler remembers 9/11. This is kinda unsurprising.
I went to a vietnam memorial in 8th grade and everybody was fucking around, I wouldn't put something like this beyond them.
Kids tend to be assholes.

this hardly merits violence
calm the fuck down
While this wasn't a good place to do it, kids are kids. They do what they feel like doing.
You guys say you would knock them over the head but in reality you wouldn't, because they are kids.
Incoming "kill them all" and "I don't want to live on this planet anymore" posts.
They probably don't know the reality of what happened there, how horrible it was, and they probably weren't disrespecting anything just for the fun of it either.
They should be scolded for doing what they did and taught a non violent and informative lesson, theres no need to vaporize them like any of you say.
Facepunch:
"God damn these kids throwing a piece of trash in a fountain at a museum. That's so fucking disrespectful!"
"Someone ought to go kill those little fuckers and mutilate their corpses."
Seriously guys, they're fucking kids. You did the same shit, if not worse, when you were their age. Yeah, it's rude thing to do, but they're too young to understand that. You're worse than they are when you threaten to kill kids over something so trivial.
KIDS TODAY WEREN'T LIKE THE KIDS BACK IN MY DAY
WHEN I WAS A KID ABSOLUTELY NOBODY DID SHIT LIKE THIS
Children not respecting a memorial for an event that wasn't even in their lifetimes and was just barely in most of ours.
My dad was in charge of the reworking and recoating of the fountains. The shit they use is good, so I'm sure the shit they threw in there did little damage to the concrete.
This coming from the people who have made and laughed at 9/11 jokes out the ass for years.
Dadgum whippersnappers.
Sounds like a terrible field-trip anyway, like the holocaust museum but with no educational merit.
Fine fuck me then I hate my parents and love 9/11 in that case
THROW THEM INTO THE SUN.
Seriously though, they are kids, they won't understand what all of this is about.
Fucking littering scum, they should flay off their polluting skin and turn it into a reusable grocery bag.
Although I find this highly disrespectful, one shouldn't dramatize 9/11 more than the Iraq war, which took away far more innocent lives.
Why would a kid have bullets with him? Like, what would he do it with? Throw it so hard that it would kill someone?

Yeah, you could have been born in the Middle Ages where everyone died of disease, worked their asses off, and whore'd out their children for money! Maybe you'd prefer the early Industrial Revolution when kids were being shipped off to work at factories for little pay, where many of whom died on the job! The Holocaust was nice, with kids all over Europe being mutilated and buried in mass shallow graves. Rwanda perhaps?
No, shut up and stop complaining. There is nothing wrong with this generation. Kids have been jerks since the dawn of man. Allow me to quote Socrates:
Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers.
Be glad you don't live in a generation that had kids killing and being killed like crazy and stop taking your life for granted just because a couple of kids threw trash in a fountain. You're not special, you're not better than anyone else, you're a kid, just like them. Grow up.

who needs guns anyways

Yeah in the past people were totally more respectful thats why women and black people had equal rights.

I can understand being bored on a field trip, and not fully understanding the importance of the 9/11 memorial as none of them would remember the attacks, it's not excuse to act like an idiot and do something that, at middle school age, you should very well know is disrespectful.
When you went to those wartime museums, did you spend time throwing trash around and fooling around with the exhibits? Probably not, because though you didn't get the seriousness of the World Wars, you were at least aware that the authority figures around you did and that the consequences would be heavy.
Then again, I was always kind of a history buff, so visiting the Canadian War Museum was an awesome experience.
