Hello facepunch. I was reading a thread about sky watching I thought I would go ahead and share this. The program is called Stellarium. It gives you a full 3d view of your local sky. You can zoom in and out and look at the planets or stars in the sky. This way, you can find the object you want to view, remmeber it's location in the sky, and go outside to view it. There are a good bit of settings there making viewing in the daytime possible, but you are very unlikely to be able to see anything in real life during the day. It is live, so planets will move as they really are outside. This is 100% free software! Just choose your location when the software starts, and you're free to view the sky! Please go visit the website! http://www.stellarium.org/ Satellite Plugin- See ISS and Satellites --- Thank you rosthouse! Downloading. Hopefully this will make it easier for me to identify different objects.
It is a very good piece of software. I recommend installing the Sattelites Plugin, to view the current position of sattelites and the ISS.
I've known about this for a while; its Freaking awesome, especially since you can see wha/the night sky is like right now in different parts of the world.

this will be good since i have a telescope
this will be good since i have a telescope
Yep. You have to take in account the area you are using your telescope in though.
How do I change the location again? Mine seemed to be stuck in Paris when I started it up and now I only see the sun :/
There are 2 bar that make an L shape in the bottom left. Put your cursor over them and they appear. Put your cursor on the bar going up and the last button is what you want.
I use this program so I can tell where stuff is in the sky and when it appears in the sky. I mean, that's its main purpose.
I rather play Orbiter. You can go to all the planets, fly an assload of ships, AND view an accurate view of all the constellations.
I rather play Orbiter. You can go to all the planets, fly an assload of ships, AND view an accurate view of all the constellations.
Orbiter is a simulator, this is a portable planetarium. The purpose of the two are very different.
I could never take off in Orbiter =(
I could never take off in Orbiter =(
It's just a matter of knowing the commands. + Button (Numpad): Increase thrust of main engines - Button (Numpad): Decrease thrust of main engines 0 (Numpad): Start Vertical-take-off-and-landing boosters (If any)
May I say thanks to the OP? I've tried it now and this will be extremely useful during cloudless nights.
